Does anyone know if any of the guys ever met Michael Jackson or if there were any quotes from either about one another? Would've loved to hear Mike remake one of MJ's songs.

and a memorable moment at the press conference where Frank, Dean and Sammy announced their "reunion" tour in the late '80s.  A reporter asked them whether they thought they'd sell as many tickets as the Jacksons did on their last tour.

 Dino looked at the guy and said: "Uh, the Jacksons....they're black, aren't they?"

Brian talked about him briefly in a few interviews about what a great guy he was just after Michael died.   

The Beach Boys were the presenters for one of MJ's Grammy (or American Music, can't remember which) awards.

Brian was asked in 1998 about him and said he liked him and related how they both got big singing with their family.

Is it wrong I looked past Brian AND Michael in that photo, and right to Micky Dolenz? :-P

I saw some YT interview circa late 90s-early 2000s where Brian was asked: "Are you aware of the fact that Michael had an abusive father, just like your own Murry? So, you can relate to him?" To which Brian replied, "Yes, I heard it. He's a great guy. I love his dancing & some of his music. We're definitely have similarities by character & so on." Those are not exact words, mind it, but overall that's what he said to the journalist.

Re photos: am I the only one who sees MJ as a museum exhibition? He looks so artificial. Why he changed his skin color is a forever mystery to me.

The autopsy and plenty of photos going back to the seventies prove without debate that Michael did have the skin disease. He did a lot to his face (and got very overboard) but that is it.

From anyone who ever worked with him and his brothers that I know, they were very well liked. The Beach Boys could have done one of the harmonically oriented Jackson 5's songs like "I'll Be There" very well in the early seventies.

Cool photo of Brian & MJ. Would also have been cool if they collaborated on a track together  too.

I've heard he may have also had lupus, which is why he was sometimes in a wheelchair and sometimes carried an umbrella to shield himself from the sun.

Why did he have to clutter his songs with all those shamone`s and hee hee`s?

He didn't, really.

Much of my favorite work of his is pre Thriller with and without his brothers. Hardly any of the later vocal trademarks at that time, but some great music and singing.

I'm not an MJ fan, though some of his 60s stuff, with and without the J5, is great.

You are kidding right? Michael Jackson did it to himself. I'm not disputing the existence of Vitilligo, which of course exists, but I am saying MJ didn't have it and he chose to do that to his own skin. He wanted his skin whitened, in much the same way he wanted to get rid of his large nose and any other features he considered untypical of a white person. That's why it always baffles me when people say he was such a great black role model...   

Absolutely. As a child he was phenomenally talented and the Jackson 5 were great!
Off The Wall too was a great album (pity he felt the need to 'update' the cover photo at a later date, with - of course - a whiter looking version of himself).
Thriller obviously is a good album and contains some very strong songs, however the gooey sentimentality is starting to creep in, along with the distracting and irritating vocal tics and mannerisms.
From then on, bar the occasional track, everything he did was either substandard or flat-out awful, and this corresponded with his descent into a seriously damaging and disturbing lifestyle.

And it's a minor point, but one that seems pertinent in this case... it seems that it's not so much that MJ wanted to look like a 'white person', it's that he didn't want to look in the mirror and see anything that reminded him of his father.

That's strange, coming from a Brian Wilson fan. What are you relying on when saying that he didn't have Vitiligo? I'm not really informed on the subject, but I thought the general consensus was that he got the disease, than whitened his whole skin in order to not look like a weirdo. It sounds logical to me.

Also, I feel like I'm the only person in the world who likes 'Bad' more than 'Thriller'. I mean, Smooth Criminal? Dirty Diana? Speed Demon? Man in the Mirror? Those are all incredible to these ears.

No doubt there's some great songs on Bad, but the robo-Jacko effect and the production (drums in particular) destroys a lot of the good will. Thriller has such a wonderful organic production. The 'groove' is missing from Bad. It's like his music got as white as his skin.

I'm not gonna deny the guy went overboard with plastic surgery, but uh, yeah, what Mr. Wach Zolfe said. Can't argue with a good, thorough autopsy, y'know? I don't know if you've ever seen someone with the condition in real life, but it's often times very visible and not easy to hide. Despite his seemingly massive insecurities with his physical appearance, I wouldn't doubt a lot of people in his position, constantly in the public eye, with the kind of money he had wouldn't do what he did if they had Vitiligo.

Also, who ever called him a great black role model after... well, 1993 or so?
