Somehow it worked with the original Star Wars, but the prequels are generally cringe-worthy at times. He's great at setting up action shots and set pieces, but he's really not up to snuff otherwise. He's a visionary with trouble translating that vision.

I thought the "old" Lucas who could overcome those problems came back for episode 3 when he decided to not comprise his story for kids like the other prequels.

I think that is his best work as a director and I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan.
