It is strange but it was also still the era of the 45 not necessarily the LP when they were making a lot of their classic hits.  Doesn't necessarily explain anything away but might be a start.

Of course, Endless Summer, a compiliation, went to number 1.

It's funny to think that if TWGMTR had moved maybe a few thousand more units, it would have been their FIRST non-comp studio #1!

Don't forget their 1964 concert album hit the #1 spot. Oooh god I don't even think about that! TWGMTR is not a #1 album, I apologize to those who love it but I didn't..
