Title: Wagner SMiLE connection
Post by: Jaco on May 02, 2013, 10:31:24 AM
A few days ago I heard this Wagner Ouverture:

Richard Wagner - Die Walküre Ouverture (aka Prelude)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKInmSFOPTQ

The tempo and the up and down scales are VERY similer to this:

Mrs O'Leary's Cow intro (aka intro to H&V?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTDNiJl1Awo

---> You can play, mash these videos together at the same time. It doesn't have to be 100% at the right beat, it works! <---

Cues posters to write, "It's just a simple descending scale, anyone could've come up with it on their own!"

Obviously I have to listen to that Fire piece again. Always seemed like something that stemmed out of a jam session while that overture is a very though-out piece of music bro

Yes there's a similarity, in tempo and in phrasing.

Unless it's being posted with a 'did brian pinch this' (no) kind of query, or a 'was he influenced by this' (maybe, maybe not) then it's not a thread with much opportunity for discussion.

Phil Spector did the same, kinda...
He took 25 secs from Lohengrin and used it as an intro. To Brian, Spector was god...

Richard Wagner - Lohengrin Ouverture (Prelude)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqk4bcnBqls
About 10 minutes long, starts very soft 'from a distant' but with an explosion of sound at about 2/3 of the time (golden ratio)

The Ronettes produced by Phil Spector - I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

What did Walkure Ever do to Wagner in order for Wagner to want him to Die? Walkure was a good man...

Heroes and Villains is in the key of C# major. In Bach's Air On A G String, there is a note that plays a C. Could the 'C' stand for 'connection to Smile'? Think about it...

Mozart's Magic Flute is in German, the English language is descended from German. SMiLE is in English.........think about it!

Every clock is a cloud. But not every cloud is a clock.

And Jaco, thank you for your posts - I still got to investigate your links. I appreciate them, no irony with me.

And the grand climax to the opera is Wagner's own 'magic fire' music, as Wotan invokes Loge to create the ring of fire around his sleeping daughter.
