I think Brian would have been really excited about it and promised a slot for Denny's song on the next album, but I'd wager his PS vision was so strong he wanted to do it all by himself. And thank God he did. IMO, Be With Me, while a-okay song, would seriously compromise the flow of the album, no matter where you'd put it. It's not melodic enough to fit, and it would be one slow dirge too many.

It's a great song, but I don't think it would have fitted on Pet Sounds, the whole point of Pet Sounds was that it was Brian at the height of his creative vision.
