I'm very very grateful and excited about the 2-CD live set coming out in May...but I wanted to see who here would be interested in having "Cotton Fields" on there??  It is probably too late to modify the track list (release date is only a month out), but perhaps those who are involved in the project who read this board could possibly pull some strings to get a very last-minute request in?  Cottonfields was one of the highlights of this tour...Al did a great job as always, and there is no official live version of this released yet.  Who on this board would be excited to see Cottonfields on there??  :)

I want a third disc with 20 more songs.  Which would naturally include "Cotton Fields."  ;D

I want Darlin' on there even more than Cottonfields, Kiss Me Baby, and Please Let Me Wonder.

Definitely but as I said, my main "wish track" would be "Don't Worry Baby" with "Darlin'" and "Cottonfields" following close behind.

"I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" is one I think really should have made the cut.

I hate to be greedy but there are some really head-scratching omissions on this set.....many of the highlights of the tour, night after night - Please Let Me Wonder, IJWMFTT, Cotton Fields....

Forget it lads this is futile. cotton fields is on the Japanese live album which we all have downloaded. I listen to it every day so Eric it should be no problem you have it.

The whole tour had fantastic setlists and it's probably only natural that a CD can't satisfy everyone. I'd love to have "Our prayer", "Cottofields" and "Summer's gone" there (or better the whole Royal Albert Hall show!!) but we can't have everything unfortunately. There are a lot of tracks included that we haven't had a official live version by The Beach Boys of yet

So many omissions!

Maybe the Made In California box-set is the place for all this "Live - The 50th Anniversary Tour" outtakes.

Since this is probably the last LIVE Beach Boy CD/Album ever it deserves a deluxe 3 CD Box Set. It was a fantastic concert, anyway. 3 CD's, photos, back stage pass, guitar pick and booklet.

Maybe if the initial sales of the LIVE CD(s) are good we'll see something else. At least the other tracks could be available as a download.

Didn't they also perform "Let Him Run Wild"? I want that as well!

He's referring to the Japanese concert live broadcast, which is circulating as a soundboard recording.

Exactly. I'd pay a premium for an overblown "Deluxe" 3 CD set. They could add a third disc with the rest of the songs. This is probably the last non-archival live release at least, so all the songs would be lovely.

Having said that, I doubt this CD set is still in the stage where it can be altered. It almost surely has to have been mixed and mastered with only four weeks left to go, perhaps already manufactured even. But if they can get more tracks on there due to fan demand, please do! :)

Like others have mentioned there may be iTunes or Amazon download exclusives along with the obligatory Japanese version with bonus tracks. Does anyone know if the live versions of California Girls, Do It Again and Sail On, Sailor from the iTunes Isn't It Time EP will be the same ones as on the new live album?

Far as I can see the Japanese version has no additional tracks but that was me trying to decipher a list on a Japanese website… might have been an import…

Wasn't this the show where Al came in late on the chorus after the second (?) verse? Great sound, but Bad Timin'. Made it a concert rarity.

I think them cutting This Whole World was a kindness to Brian. Not a song he finds easy to sing.

I wouldn't be too keen to take off All This is That.

All This Is That was the absolute highlight of all three shows I saw and of the DVD. Taking it off would be lunacy (as indeed would be taking off Pet Sounds or Marcella).

There are a few songs I'd like to have seen on there that aren't -- This Whole World, Please Let Me Wonder, Kiss Me Baby, Our Prayer and I Just Wasn't Made For These Times would all be nice additions, as would all of Al's leads -- but I can see exactly why they made the decisions they did.

We're going to get a sterilized and heavily edited collection that removes the uniqueness of the live performance, just like almost all other commercial live albums.  Such albums usually have studio overdubbing as well. They are "live" in name only.  The record companies give us this stuff instead of what we really want, a full live show, with the between songs banter, and even the mistakes, so we hear what it was really like to be at a show.  The best live albums (and best selling) of all time, albums like Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison, Hot August Night, and Harry Belafonte at Carnegie Hall have a lot of banter and audience interaction and very minimal editing.

I would be willing to guess that some of the new CD will come from the Grand Prairie performance, as this was already edited (and released for free on the PBS web site), particularly "The Little Girl I Once Knew", which was dropped from the setlist later in the tour. I would also expect quite a bit of the Phoenix material from the already released DVD.

We will get very little of Mike's banter, which, despite our resumption of anti-Love feeling on this board recently, was very funny and perfectly timed in most shows.  We won't get the things that make each live show unique, such as Bruce introducing his Junior High girlfriend at Red Rocks and then dedicating the song to her, or Brian introducing his wife and kids during the same show. 

Having said that, I of course will buy the new CD, as it is the Beach Boys Live, and I'm still glad that they're releasing it.

I can understand why This Whole World and Our Prayer aren't on the tracklist - but don't understand the exclusion of the others you listed. Since you usually have great insight into matters on this board, what do you think the reason is?

I don't think I do have 'great insight' at all, but I'd suspect the reason is that they thought that having that many Brian leads would be offputting -- casual fans aren't used to Brian's post-Landy voice, and most don't find it particularly pleasant. So if you're going to drop tracks, it makes sense to drop downbeat songs with Brian leads that don't fit the "Beach Boy" image, even if they're better songs. You'll notice that the Brian-sung rarities that are left are all uptempo ones that fit the Beach Boys' image.

As for Al's leads -- all the ones left off were written by non-Beach Boys. If you were Brian or Mike (or whoever in their staff makes decisions for them) and you had a choice between including a song with a Mike lead that gets you songwriting royalties, or one with an Al lead that gets John Philips royalties, you're going to go for the former, aren't you?
