Once again we'll be exposed to an attempt to dramatize all of the creativity and craziness that is BW.  Let's say they nail him this time.  What moments must you see committed to film?  I'd love:

-Brian taking his time to turn a feel into a song at the piano

-Brian splicing tape for something from Smile (showing how arduous the editing process was)

-Brian, Carl and Dennis recording the backing track for That's Not Me

I'd love to see them discussing how the hard work for  the "Made In California" box set really paid off...

- Some scenes about his failure to win over his highschool love Carol even after becoming a huge Pop icon.
- Drip Drop recording....seriously. If you saw Paul Dano in There Will Be Blood, you can't deny that this scene would be epic.

Brian's interactions with John and Paul, leading Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop in endless rounds of Shortenin' Bread,  and judo-kicking Elvis

I'd love to see his first time hearing Strawberry Fields Forever. That scene in itself can sum up Smile's collapse for the audience.

Everything that's skimmed over whenever someone who only has minimum, remote knowledge of BW tries to sum up his career

This movie needs to be at least close to 3 hours long, or else it's not worth doing.
Otherwise, it'll be:
Scene one, Brian is raised by jerk dad Murry.
Scene two, Brian performs surf tunes.
Scene three, Brian goes to the studio and twirls knobs.
Scene four, Brian records Pet Sounds.
Scene four, Brian goes to bed.
Scene five, Brian gets out for about five minutes in the '80s, then goes back to bed.
Scene six, Brian gets out of bed for good and is performing happily today. (:

Boring. What about the scene that shows what exactly he did in the studio and also establishes why he was distinguished among his contemporaries? What about the obsession with Be My Baby and why someone would be attracted to the record? What about his competition with The Beatles presented in a way that doesn't seem dubious to the average 20something watching? What about all the other misconceptions people hold about the band, will they be corrected or minimized for the sake of a movie? What about the hours he spent talking into a tape recorder about vegetables? What about his other antics between 1967 and 1988? What about the dildos?

I want all the grey areas committed to film. I don't care how trite it is, this stuff is far more entertaining than the fact that Manson wrote one of the band's songs. And I want it done artfully and with taste.

Basically a movie that is the opposite of this mindset.

I don't care, as long as its produced by ontor pertawst I will be happy!

Realistically, though, we're not going to get a three-hour in-depth character study of Brian Wilson. Long periods of time are going to be skipped over, and a time period as complex as 1966-7 where whole movies can be made about that alone have to be distilled into short scenes like that. I liked the Strawberry Fields anecdote because it encapsulates many of Brian's issues about Smile: the competition that went into it, outside forces' role in shelving it, and Brian's emotional insecurities that ultimately hurt the project the most.

There needs to be a 15-minute-long scene of him sitting next to his home jukebox listening to "Be My Baby" over and over. I will be outraged if this pivotal moment is left unaccounted for!

Frankly my dears, I couldn't give a damn.

I'm far more excited about the concept of a 6CD career-spanning box than a biopic.

Aren't we here because of the music?

No duh. Actually, now that I think about the time length more, you could probably fit everything in under two hours with a good enough script. I'm not interested in a character study, I want an entertaining history exposé. Paul Dano needs to be taped trying to convince somebody exactly why Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes is the greatest album ever made while he's walking around with a dildo in his pants and Shortenin' Bread is playing on reel-to-reel

I liked the idea of it being non-chronological. I hope it ends up that way.

and a 30-minute-long scene of dano actually slamming back hard cider, legit drunk off his ass, in holland listening to sail away by randy newman, with many shorter reprisals during that era

The ghost of Foskett should hover all over the enterprise.

I know what will happen. They will play up the abuse from Murry, the drugs, and the mental illness. They will make the Brian of 1968 the Brian of 1975 and Mike Love will be a villain.

Could well be. A depressing idea.

Nudity

Most likely, yes.  One of the reasons I don't like most musical biopics, even the critically acclaimed ones, is because they can basically all be reduced to: "Look at this person who made great music but had a really hard life."  Very little insight is to be found, and they are more likely merely to repeat simplistic myths about their subjects rather than challenge or complicate them.

I just never raise my hopes. smilethebeachboysloveyou perfectly describes 95 percent of them.

What would impress me, would be capturing just how Brian, without having been a surfer, or race car driver (Dennis) was able to capture an essence that translated into music fitting those dynamics.  And, I'd like to see scenes, as we've seen in old black and white stills, of the boys working out music around an old upright piano, or whatever they were using or renting at the outset.  No studio, no Murry, but what they were able to come up with just themselves.

And, I'd like to see a scene from junior college, how Brian interacted with professors, etc. I'd also like to see the early influence of folk music, early rock, and the whole late 50's Elvis influence, alongside doo-wop, and others who may have mentored him.  And, how exactly did he teach them their parts, which departed from vocal styles of other bands.

A scene with Brian in a bathrobe at Kieth Moon's birthday party would be awesome, the whole bit of him getting introduced to John Lennon, etc... :)

I want the center of the film to be:

Brian 'entertaining' Iggy Pop in some sleazy joint (or some celeb party) with a full hour of 'Shortenin' Bread' (in real time).

Then I can die a happy man.

As long as it is the opposite of Ray, Walk the Line, The Aviator, etc. I will be happy.

The movie should start with Brian literally digging his own grave in his backyard, as per Jack Rieley's story.

Brian taking acid on the beach and staring at the sunrise.

Brian and the boys hanging out with Maharishi, and then recording the song "Friends". Random scenes of acid rock raves in San Francisco and political rallies should be interspersed.

Brian writing "Catch A Wave" and also "California Girls" with Mike.

Brian's threesome with Tandyn Almer.

Rapid fire scenes of Murry's abuse set to the song "Cuckoo Clock".

I'm still holding out for an anime production. The two "loser" BB biopics we've seen so far have convinced me that live action doesn't cut it.

Truth be told, I'm not even remotely interested in Brian as hero on the music-genius pedestal or any sleazy stuff, for that matter. I'm far more interested in Brian the human being. I'd like some balance in telling the story. Brian and his brothers, associates, etc. as real people.

And believable beards, please!

Ah yes, the anime. Brian-sama: 音楽神 (Music God).

Yeah. The beard issue. As Bret Wheadon (of www.beachboys.com) has it: they looked like creatures from Planet Of The Apes in that movie...

And there you have it, Mike - an epic movie musical using only the songs from smilethebeachboysloveyou called Murry-Mia

I hope it's like Walk Hard.

I find it kind of creepy making a biopic about somebody who is still alive and functioning. Wouldn't it be a better idea to focus on The Drummer instead?

But if they do make this movie, the suggestion about David Marks having an acid trip is my favorite so far. And nudity.

A few other scenes, maybe not as crazy, but still vital...

Brian cruising to a diner with Gary Usher. The two drink milkshakes and then go for a jog on the beach, running until they're physically exhausted.

Brian sort of sits on Landy's lap. Landy explains Christianity to Brian. Brian writes "Still I Dream Of It".

Brian and Dennis arguing with Jack Reiley that the Beach Boys never wrote surf songs, again as per Reiley.

Extended montage of Brian sucking on a baby's bottle and writing the chords to "I Love To Say Dada", mixed with scenes of Brian being fed by his mother, from nursing to eating pancakes in the emptiness of his childhood home after his airplane meltdown.

Brian and Mike sittin' in a rambler, just like teenage gamblers, tunin' in to '50s pop radio. Before this, from Mike's balcony, you can see the lights of L.A. We fade back from the car to see it again.

Brian spills hot chocolate on Marilyn at show. A few nights later, the two are making out in Brian's car in Marilyn's driveway. As Brian pushes up Marilyn's skirt, we can see the burn mark on her thigh.

The movie ends with "Male Ego" playing as Brian walks along Santa Monica Pier.

Inspired by these hilarious suggestions, as well as the Star Trek: TNG Season 8 Twitter feed, I have come up with a few ideas for The Beach Boys TV Series. I think these would all make for exciting episodes:

Trouble arises when Dennis sleeps with two journalists from rival newspapers; Bruce gets his teeth whitened.

The boys are upset when Al brings home another stray dog; meanwhile, Brian eats a thousand hamburgers in one sitting.

Murry needs to be reassured by the boys when his pants split open at an important meeting at Capitol headquarters; Mike tries to phone the President but keeps being put on hold.

The boys decide to throw a surprise party for Carl; Charles Manson comes by and threatens to strangle Bruce.

Dennis plans to drive over the grand canyon; Carl finds a new bagel shop and considers moving in.

Bruce is upset because Mike won’t allow him to display his Grammy award; Al is upset because no one is paying attention to his swear jar.

Brian and Marilyn plan their honeymoon; she rejects his request to camp out in Spector’s backyard. Meanwhile, Dennis fills Mike’s hat with shaving cream

Dennis gives Al tips on how to speak to girls; Carl comes up with 30 guitar riffs in one day but then discovers that they all sound like Johnny B. Goode.

Brian comes up with a great ‘feel’ with Marilyn’s sister; Bruce does some crosswords

Brian gets called for jury duty but chaos ensues when he won’t take off his fire helmet in court; Dennis tries to juggle 19 dates in one night

Mike and Bruce briefly open a deli and meet a lot of colourful characters; Brian finally listens to Side B of Sgt. Pepper and then tries to explode the house

Carl is embarrassed at the recording session when it is revealed that he can’t whistle; Al gets nightmares after listening to a Steppenwolf album

Mike meditates for forty-two hours straight on top of Bruce’s lucky shorts; Bruce is late for a job interview

They should seriously re-create the "I Get Around" session where Brian fires Murry or the infamous "Help Me Ronda" session.

I want it to be proof read by AGD and Phil Cohen..

Seriously though, it would be a dream to have some of the Beach Boys scholars involved

R&R you are a stone (or is that stoned?) genius. So many great ones--I especially like the idea that Al is the Loretta Young of the BBs. Classic!

Naturally, what I want in the biopic is the full version (with complete lyrics) for "Beatrice from Baltimore."

I don't think the board went down because of "sever issues" or even "Wouldn't it Be Nice (To Live Again)". Frankly, I believe rockandroll unearthed a goldmine here and I'm calling it first that Capitol recognised this, took the board down, pillaged a few of our ideas and deleted the evidence to avoid infringement claims. Brian, David and Al are in negotiations as we speak to put aside their differences with Bruce and Mike so filming can start off the Florida Keys in August.

We've lost some of the best ones. Rocknroll, please repost them if you saved them.

Fortunately the only ones of my own that I didn't have saved were salvaged on here. I'm away from my own computer so I will re-post them later today maybe with a few new ones. Unfortunately I don't have any of the others. Hopefully someone else saved them.

Brian gets a robot that can sing in perfect pitch; meanwhile Mike is upset when the robot makes fun of him when the other boys aren’t looking

Al throws up after watching Carl smoke a cigarette; Brian tells Mike of his plans to write a symphony using only dog whistles

Bruce gets the opportunity of a lifetime when he is asked to cut the ribbon at the grand opening of a local thrift store; Dennis tries to stop a newly discovered STD from being named after him

At a night out, Mike bets the other guys he can eat 100 wings but then regrettably fills up on the appetizer nachos; Carl tries to let the other guys know that he’s trapped under a jukebox

Main rivals The Four Seasons are in town! Frankie Valli challenges Brian to a falsetto competition; meanwhile Dennis challenges himself by attempting to sleep with all 4 Seasons girlfriends in order of season.

Brian tries to get his dogs to bark in ¾ time; Al gets lost in an unfamiliar neighbourhood after chasing a butterfly

Mike learns to use his bass voice when talking to intimidating neighbours; Bruce heads off to bed early again

Carl goes speed dating but loses his breath after two dates; Al saves up for a new candy bar

Dennis is depressed when he discovers that he already slept with every woman in Sacramento; Bruce can’t remember where he left his wallet

Al and Carl are playing around and accidentally drop Murry’s glass eye down the bathroom sink; Brian is embarrassed at a session when he calls Carol Kaye “mommy” in front of the whole Wrecking Crew

Marilyn records a steamy message for Brian but is miffed when he suggests that she should have double-tracked it; Bruce’s hair falls out when the boys replace his pills with mints

Carl accidentally locks his grandfather in the car; worried that he’s losing his edge, Dennis handcuffs himself to a hobo

Al’s seashell collection draws hundreds of seagulls to his bedroom; Murry takes an IQ test and refuses to share the results with Brian

Bruce thinks that someone has been using his TV tray; Mike is furious when he learns that he has contracted “The Dennis”

Carl is convinced that Mike is only interested in meditation so that he can meet mystical women; Bruce does a solo concert and only his parents show up.

Frank Zappa comes by to visit, and Al hides in the basement; Dennis tries to go a whole day without sexual activity and his pants explode

Mike is hesitant when Brian wants to order a new item on their weekly pizza; Al learns a valuable lesson when he drinks two sodas and gets a sore tummy

Someone needs to animate these like The Murry Wilson Show.

Bruce finds the lost chord (it's A6), and Al learns to cross the road in a safe and proper manner.

Mike wakes up with a flowing, luscious head of blonde hair, Brian finds a Beach Boys album he doesn't remember making in his record shop.

Carl loses his appetite, Van Dyke Parks writes a song that rhymes 'moon' and 'June'.

Al has his first day of dental college, Bruce is appalled by The White Album.

Brian accidentally takes Marilyn to see Birth Of The Nation on date night, Dennis wakes up on Air Force One.

The band wrestle with the implications of releasing a song with 'fat bitch' in the title, Brian also has a duck following him around.

Dennis finds he is fourth in line to the British Throne by marriage, Al goes through a phase.

Brian invents a new instrument called The Wilsonotron, Mike tries a new hair grow serum.

Carl tries to ask out the girl at the guitar shop by playing cheesy love songs, Bruce runs for Mayor

Al makes a friend at Dental College, Dennis bangs them.

Carl keeps breaking guitar strings during gigs in order to go see the girl at the guitar shop, Van Dyke invents a new letter of the alphabet.

As a joke, and Without telling Brian, the rest of the band audition for The Monkees. The plan backfires horribly, as they all get the part and start on Monday.

Al gets an F. The band attempt to convince Brian he doesn't need a television.

Dennis forgets his dates name, Mike is revealed to be a world class jazz pianist.

Carl is crushed when the girl at the guitar shop ridicules The Monkees, Brian shatters Marilyn's favourite china singing falsetto around the house.

The band suddenly realise they haven't released a record in a while, The Radiant Radish is classified as a terrorist organisation by the Pentagon

This show needs to come out! :lol :lol :lol

Dennis bangs The Girl At The Guitar Shop, Bruce and Al plot to steal Carl's priceless collection of comics.

Dennis convinces Al that Mike has died when he in fact has just gone to Rishikesh, and Brian decides to join the local amateur dramatics society.

The group is convulsed with terror when Brian buys a Monkees album, and Bruce is mistakenly voted Miss Waycross County after a clerical error.

The Maharishi tells Mike his mantra is 'when' instead of the customary 'om', while back home Al gets bullied at dental college.

Brian installs a sandbox in everyone's living room without telling them, Southern California is placed under martial law after a new strain of The Dennis gets out of control.

The band can't decide what to do on a Saturday night, whilst in Rishikesh Mike tries to romance Mia Farrow.

Brian is cast as Hamlet, Al finds a handgun on the street.

Carl goes country, Bruce discovers he has a $10,000 bar tab

A flash animation done in the style of that terrible Beatles cartoon with these plotlines would be amazing.

What about a trapped in the closet with Mike Love. He can narrate it with BBs song title puns.

My imagination can't decide if I'd prefer the boys to look like they did in the early-1960s or the mid-1970s for these plotlines. Al's white suit vs prepubescent Carl. It's tough guys.

Gosh, I have no idea. Maybe they can all be flashbacks, like each episodes starts with a brief clip of Brian regaling his dogs with tales of the past so they could happen any time. I sort of have them in the late 60's in the ol' cortex.

It should open with present-day Brian, in a comfy chair, surrounded by his 14 children, Melinda, and his 144 dogs. He says: 'hi all, my name is Brian Wilson, what's your excuse? Anyway, what follows is my life story. As I myself remember it. Many 'experts' (he he) tried to prod and coax me into inserting things that did not happen. Very intrusive they were. Characters like Doe, Stebbins, and many others whose names I forgot. But my sweet wife Melinda got rid of these unsavoury types. She insisted that Joe Thomas be the chief writer. I am happy with that. And we did away with that whole SMiLE nonsense. We kept it on the sunny side. And that's why Mike makes cameo appearances. He's an incredible iceman!

*loud full belly laughs*

So I hope that you'll enjoy the show!'.

I've come up with some more. I think it's gotten to the point now that I've done so many that they are getting weirder. But, hey, whatever:

Dennis is unamused when Carl’s recently purchased magic ring turns Al into a lady’s man; Mike unsuccessfully tries to build his own ring

The group does not respond well to Mike’s standup routine; Bruce is angered when the boys start using the term “Brucing” as a euphemism for taking a long time in the bathroom.

Dennis finds himself attracted to one of Al’s dolls; meanwhile, Hal Blaine is befuddled when Brian asks him to capture the sound of a man passing a kidney stone

The band is touched when an old would-be tunesmith wants to sell them his songs but are shocked when all the songs espouse a pro-Confederate message; meanwhile Carl is aggravated after Bruce signs them both up for square dancing lessons

Mike meets a new friend but almost ruins it after threatening to punch out his father; Brian forces the other guys to listen to him turning the hall lights on and off for three hours

Dennis is depressed when he learns that the city plans to develop on Make Out Point; the band is confused when Bruce keeps introducing himself as “The Cute One”

Carl loses his lucky comb and becomes superstitious after he keeps falling down the stairs; meanwhile, Brian wears a Godzilla mask to the Grammy’s

A girl gives Dennis a run for his money when she doesn’t want to sleep with him; meanwhile, Brian is convinced that Mike’s pen is haunted by demons after he submits the lyrics to Salt Lake City

Mike hosts a “Mike Love lookalike contest” but becomes concerned when Brian starts constantly hanging out with the winner; the band try and think up names for Bruce’s goitre

The band is worried about Brian’s increasingly erratic behaviour; meanwhile, Al enters a pumpkin carving contest

Dennis is embarrassed after Mike walks in on him watching a Star Trek episode; the band is forced to leave a restaurant after a salad gives Brian “bad vibes”

In this heartwarming flashback episode, the boys sit at the kitchen table and reminisce about old times over some cheeseburgers and cokes while Bruce recovers in the hospital after having his sweat glands removed.

Carl and Brian confront Dennis when they learn that he is telling people that he’s adopted; Al learns about the dangers of hitch hiking after he is picked up by a really boring insurance salesman

Seriously, someone needs to do this.

Well rockandroll, we have at least a few seasons worth here so we're due to jump the shark any post now   ;D

The band worries about Dennis when he doesn't take a groupie back to his hotel room, Al goes on a school trip to the beach.

Carl loses a tonne of weight, Brian drops acid in a shopping centre

Special Guest Star Paul McCartney comes to visit Brian, but Mike is depressed as he doesn't remember him from Rishikesh.

Brian is concerned as Special Guest Star Paul McCartney seems to be overstaying his welcome, Al writes his first song entitled 'Woman, I Love Your Teeth'

Dennis is caught up in a bank robbery, Brian feels dismayed when he hears Surfin' USA on an oldies station.

After finally asking out The Girl In The Guitar Shop, Carl is waylaid by various freak occurrences on the way to the date - Brian asks him to sing 'Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry' 47 times on a track, he has to pick up Al from dental college, get his car back from Dennis, and he accidentally drinks Mikes 'Special' apple juice. Will he make it on time?

Mike joins the neighbourhood watch, Brian tries to get his cars to rev in thirds.

The band is thrown into controversy when Dennis says to a journalist that Jesus 'don't mean sh*t to me', forcing the rest of the band to get religion.

Al gets a summer job at The Radiant Radish, shenanigans occur when Brian goes shopping for a new bathrobe

Brian literally jumps a shark

Van Dyke Parks and Mike Love are trapped in a bank vault together, Bruce is arrested for going one mile over the speed limit.

Mike Love tries street performing, Brian makes a whole Jasper Dailey album.

Dennis gets involved with a abstinence campaign,  Al is stalked by a goat.

Carl takes part in an eating contest, Brian tries to find the "child (who) is the father of the man"

Rockandroll, where art thou?

The group are concerned as Bruce appears to be going senile, Carl is dismayed when The Girl At The Guitar Shop calls and asks to be set up with Dennis.

Al accidentally puts one of Brians 'sugar cubes' in his tea, whilst Brian gets really into practical jokes.

Dennis sobers up, Brian is thrown into panic when Capitol call to say they are coming up to the house to hear new material.

Brian sees an episode of The Monkees and wonders why they all look so familiar, Mike visits Haight Ashbury and no-one recognises him.

Mike challenges Van Dyke to a spelling bee, Banana buries the Smile tapes in Brian's garden.

Carl is stunned to realise that The Girl From The Guitar Shop is actually his neighbour, The Radiant Radish makes its first sale.

Brian buys a Moog, which slowly consumes the house. Al gets a tattoo.

Brian accuses Dennis of bringing his girlfriends back to his home echo chamber, but when he denies it the brothers journey to find out who is boning up there.

Mike makes a wager with the gang that he can't jump his bike over a shark tank out in the carpark.

Brian wakes up and takes a shower only to be suddenly joined by the previously assumed dead Al Jardine.

Bruce saws the head off the local town statue to prove his street cred, only to be slowly driven insane by dreams of the head talking to him.

Carl gets too old and his voice breaks so he's replaced with a younger actor.

Brian has the BBs only play 1961-1963 era songs for a gang of hippies as a joke, Mike doesn't get the joke.

Al  Jardine has to do dental surgery on Murry Wilson, Carl gets a job at the Hawthorne Frosty Freeze.

Bruce gets annoyed when everybody mistakes him as Brian on tour, Dennis is lost at sea sailing and ends up on Gilligan's Island. (TV show tie-in)

Dennis is caught huffing paint with sixth graders.
Bruce accidentally gets crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy, and almost chokes to death on a peanut, only to be saved by a karate chop to the back by Brian.
Mike levitating over a Rolling Stones show dropping SIP cassettes.
Carl wandering around the dessert with Jim Morrison high on lsd.
Al riding a carousel.

Carl decides to take up cheerleading as a relaxing hobby when the band isn't recording or touring, Dennis comes along "for support"; Brian gets a second job as Dickie Dee ice cream salesman, writing the accompanying jingles himself.

Dennis beats up Mike.
Dennis sleeps with a bunch of groupies, then sleeps with Mikes wife.
Carl cries because people make fun of his weight.
Brian sleeps, and sleeps not knowing hes on top of Marilyn
Dennis beats up Mike, again.
Al complains for no apparent reason
Bruce writes his first song and everyone laughs at him.
Dennis and Charles Manson take some LSD,
Mike goes in town trying to get people to listen to the teachings of the Mardashi, people throw things at him.
Mike meets a young OSD, OSD criticizes Mike, Mike is sad of OSDs comment, says to himself "its a damn shame", goes home and punches the wall.
Carl still sobs, Annie gives him a box of donuts to cheer him up.

Al Jardine accidentally locks himself inside an old boathouse in Holland. There is an emergency exit, but the door is so low and narrow that not even Al - the slightest Beach Boy - can get through it. Frustrated, he writes "California Saga" on a xylophone inside the boathouse. The next day, the owner returns to the boathouse and informs Al that he was turning the knob the wrong way. "I've been living on saltines this whole time!" Al shouts angrily before leaving. "And you guys make the doors to damn small in Europe!"

A lengthy scene of Bruce Johnston altering all of his shorts so that they'll be short enough before the group goes on tour. "The Nearest Faraway Place" repeats in the background.

Brian Wilson is inside the bathroom at Marilyn's house.  He goes to flush the toilet but it clogs. Panicked, he flushes the toilet again and again until he his knee deep in water and crying. Marilyn starts knocking on the door repeatedly. "Brian, are you OK in there? BRIAN!" She eventually forces the door open and a torrent of water knocks her back ten feet. She hits an end table and knocks over and breaks some of her mother's precious china. Brian runs out the house ("I'm sorry," he yells) and drives to the Wich Stand in LA to gorge himself with food.

Mike Love manages to connive his way onto the same flight Paul McCartney is taking to India for the Maharishi retreat.  He wears a fake brown mustache and fake thick-rimmed glasses so Paul won't recognize him and sits in the seat right behind Paul, paying the girl that was supposed to have the seat $100 so she'd switch. He overhears Paul complaining that he doesn't know what to name the Beatles next album. Later, when the stewardess is passing out lunch, Mike pipes up, "I don't think you gave the gentleman in front of me his packet of pepper."

"Actually, she did," Paul responds.

"Y'know, the thought just struck me. Wouldn't Sgt. Pepper be a groovy name for an album?" Mike conjectures.

"Haha, you might be right, mate. Say, what's your name?"

"Um... Billy Shears! Yes, Billy Shears."

Film makers, here's what I want:

- Don't paint Mike to be a villain. He's had his disagreements with Brian, and certainly show that, but make great pains to show he's not a one dimensional bad guy.

- Don't chock all of Brian's problems up to LSD, but don't dismiss his LSD usage either. Brian Wilson is NOT an acid causality.

- DO show Dennis blooming as a writer and Carl as a leader. Don't shove them in the background.

- Remember some nice mid-60s details like Brian's paranoia about Phil Spector; the tent, tumbling mats and sandbox at Brian's home at different times in 1966; and his reaction to 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.

- Have some nice little scenes of Brian imbibing apple cider and listening to Sail Away in Holland. The key is to have the audience step into Brian's head, especially in little lonely moments like this.

- The infamous 'Help Me Rhonda' vocal session with Murry.

- Scene of Brian writing 'The Warmth of the Sun' with Mike.

- Scene(s) of Brian writing with Van Dyke.

Along your lines, Summer_Days, the scene of Brian going to see "Seconds" would be good.

And yes, I hope Dennis and Carl don't get pushed into the background. It would also be interesting (and gut-wrenching) to show the conservatorship issue, and the toll it took on Carl.

As for the joke scenes ...

The Beach Boys regather in 2012 to record TWGMTR. Brian warmly greets the guys in the studio and hands Al a big, gift-wrapped package. Al opens it, and says, "Brian, is this ... "

"Yes, Al, that's the box you stood on to record our biggest hits. I want you to use it now."

As I said when this bio was mentioned several years ago, I think the makers will play safe with the band and its members. For instance, I can imagine a scene where Brian is telling Marilyn he is frustrated with the making of the SMiLE album in general rather than naming certain individuals. It covers the story without leaving the makers open to lawsuits.

Dennis and Charles Manson wed each other in a small, quiet ceremony.
Bruce starts stalking the kid out of the Problem Child film/video. Eventually the Courts rule that Bruce cannot come with 500 yards of the child.
Al punches out a disabled child that asks for his autograph.

Mike neglects cleaning the poo splatter under the seat, causing Bruce to shriek audibly while lifting the seat to make a no. 1; Norbit released on Blu-Ray.

Dennis inadvertently paints Carl's penis green; one of Brian's dog vomits up a partial fake harpsichord in the sandbox.

Bruce calls Obama "the biggest butthole in the world", prompting Brian and Melinda to sue; a greasy mushroom slips off a burger and lands on Carl's favorite shiny tracksuit, and every attempt to remove the stain makes it larger.

As Brian gets entrenched in the followup to TWGMTR, the new Spector-produced Charles Manson album "Pleasure Island" hits no. 1 and causes Brian to abandon the project when he forgets the order of the My Life Suite movements; something floats to the surface of the water in Mike's hot tub and is quickly caught in a jar and carried off by a shifty-eyed Bruce.

Al has a breakdown after Glen Campbell steals his nose and forgets where he put it; David Lee Marks rejoins Facebook.

The band is practicing and working up songs in Brian's home studio.  Brian is listening from his room.  Cut back to the music room.  Brian is standing in the doorway in his bath robe.  He offers to come in and fix a bridge so that the song is perfect.  In doing so, it shows the true genius of Brian Wilson.  The others are left shaking their heads.  Brian leaves to stop by the kitchen on his way back to his room.

This probably did happen on several occasions.

I think there should be a short cut set in the mid 70's showing Brian in his bed listening to Be My Baby while wearing his bathrobe. He lies there staring at the ceiling and smoking. the camera then zooms out revealing a stack of 'Be My Baby' 45's next to his record player. When the song ends, he reaches over and plays it again.

I imagine this scene can be done efficiently in less than 30 secs, but boy would it be great.

They have to touch on that.... or when Desper left for a while and Brian was apparently listening to a loop of a chunk of it for hours. 

I've been trying to interest Al Jardine in a biopic project but he keeps blowing me off. I even reserved a table at The Sizzler and everything! Had some concept art ready to go.

This is remarkably self-serving, I know, but I would love to turn The Beach Boys: The Sitcom into a twitter page. Would I run into trouble for using the band name? People seem to get away with using Seinfeld and Star Trek, and they are big corporate names too.

Maybe but the convention of this is to put up a new one every day. My Twitter models are "Modern Seinfeld" and "TNG: Season 8." If I put them all up now, people late to the party might miss the new ones as they go up. While I occasionally like to scroll back to see previous "tweets," I don't think that's the norm.

I wrote this 3 years ago, a little embarrassed about it but this was where my mind was then.  I'm so glad the film doesn't enslave itself to the normal tropes that come with biopics.  Title cards for different eras, heavy makeup, hitting every beat in someone's life.

My inclination would have been wayyy more conventional (as you can see) and it would have been awful.  Although, I'm still proud of the way LOVE & MERCY opens.  In my head, that's where the story needed to start - with Brian in bed in the 1970s.  The way the film does though is so masterful, Brian really did deserve this VIP treatment he got.
