I understand it was a very "with it" phrase in its day.

Track 14, disc 5, MIC…

… perhaps!   ;D

Might be, John, but by then it'll be 'MotherBeepBeep'.

Eddie Cochran clearly says "penis" in this song at 0.27. The I always thought I was mishearing the lyric, but no, he sang penis instead of peanuts and the song was banned.

For once I learnt something from youtube comments, which perhaps is the most shocking thing of all

Wondering what's "awesome" about cursing or obscene language. Childish is the word that comes to mind.

It has a Stooges-like intensity, keying on a single riff for the majority of the song. It could really use a guitar solo, though.

Said it three times actually.

That song is pretty um...bad. Sounds like Brian channeling the Lizard King.

Bizarre. The backing track sounds so tame in comparison to the vocals. Would've been a whole new level of awesome if Denny was behind the kit kicking up the tempo 20bpm every bar or so :D

Is it pose Broan was being coached in "cool", as per when he performed live in tight leather pants once? I wouldn't ever classed his as a prude but generally reckon he has more class than to resort to phrases such as "muthafukka" without encouragement. When was this recorded again? Is it a Landyism?

1978. I don't think anybody was telling Brian to be "cool" by swearing. I think he's always had a bit of a potty mouth. I know he said stuff that slipped within the past few years. I think it might have been at that rooftop reunion where he let an f-bomb slip.

Sorry, should have better-defined - I meant in his songs, not day to day life.

… otherwise we'd surely have had classics like:

f*** Knows (What I'd Be Without You)
Heroes & mo'fos
Motherfuckin' Vibrations

… with apologies for the bad language used to make a point…!

This thread reminds me of the time when the blueboard was utterly aghast at the Brian Wilson On Tour DVD. Lots of folks bitching and pissing and moaning about "ZOMGZ BRIAN HAS SUCH A BAD MOUTH! MY KIDS WERE WATCHING THIS WITH ME!" and blah, blah, blah.

It's a word. Grow up, you mo'fos.

Like "Marcella", "Drip Drop" is another example of Brian employing too slow of a tempo for the recorded version. Sped up, it sounds much better: https://soundcloud.com/george-vieira/drip-drop

Brian's potty mouth is nothing compared to Elvis Presley's. Every other word in the studio was muthafucka and God this and God that. Because we all know a real man proves his manliness with the size of his vocabulary of cuss words.

I friggin love this version. The song actually makes sense! It sounds more like a BBs song, rocks like a hurricane and even smooths the vocal out some. Oh, and the primal cacophony of fucks at the end is thoroughly excellent

It's weird how sped up, Brian sounds a lot like his '90s Paley era self here.

Now just imagine this song with a guitar solo and harmonies/background vocals something like the original Dion version. Maybe some rollicking piano chords here and there.  Turns out Brian might've been on to something!

Wondering what's "awesome" about cursing or obscene language. Childish is the word that comes to mind.

It's less him cursing and more his delivery and the fact that, for whatever reason, he opted to scream, "LET'S GO MOTHER FUCKERS" repeatedly in the middle of a cover of a Dion song without explanation. Like, who does that? Late 70s Brian Wilson does that. What was his intent with all of this? The world will probably never know. These are reasons why it's awesome, not just "tee hee he said a naughty word."

I love this recording more than I can put into words.
