Title: Is anyone else ridiculously excited about the NEW DAFT PUNK ALBUM
Post by: hypehat on March 25, 2013, 02:08:14 PM
Cos I am.

On the basis of about 30 seconds of music.

Some enterprising twats have looped said 30 seconds SO I CAN ROCK THE f*** OUT TO THEM.

They now have my undying love for officially launching the new album at a farm show in Wee Wah, Australia. And I thought The Beach Boys were weird.

very excited

though to be honest, i love their 'late 70s West Coast pop-rock' music sound rather than their dance stuff

"Daft Punk later explained that they sought a "west coast vibe" for Random Access Memories, referencing such bands as Fleetwood Mac, the The Doobie Brothers and the Eagles"

You suck and nobody likes you, cablegeddon

Tony, in the link I just posted they have an interview with Todd Terje, who worked with them on the album when they recorded in LA and essentially said 'I had no idea about the sound, but I thought it was so cool and LA was paradise and after my 3 weeks working on the album I moved there'.  Which is a fairly ringing endorsement I suppose;

'This record is so good, I moved across the country to be nearer it'

They should put that on the cover sticker.

Also, NILE ROGERS AND GIORGIO MORODER are on it. I'm really buying into the hype, but I really want this album to be huge.

Snippet of the NEW SINGLE. Its got Pharrell and Nile Rogers on it. BOOM. https://www.youtube.com/embed/CGP2rkuEDl4

This is cool and all, I preordered the sh*t out of this album, but I wish they'd just RELEASE THE BLOODY SINGLE. I'd buy a car and learn to drive just so I could blare it out the windows all summer

Depends how they use them. Most of the collaborators listed aren't vocalists, so reckon you're alright. I'm worried about Panda Bear, tbh

Daft Punk have shared the tracklist for their new album Random Access Memories, which you can check out below.

The French electronic duo's long-awaited new album will be released on May 21st. Daft Punk have been dropping hints about it over the past few weeks, including airing a teaser trailer during Coachella that featured the song "Get Lucky."

For Random Access Memories, Daft Punk stepped away from samples and drum machines and enlisted top-notch studio musicians, as well as collaborators Nile Rodgers, Pharrell, Giorgio Moroder and Animal Collective's Panda Bear.

1) "Give Life Back to Music"
2) "The Game of Love"
3) "Giorgio by Moroder"
4) "Within"
5) "Instant Crush"
6) "Lose Yourself to Dance"
7) "Touch"
8) "Get Lucky"
9) "Beyond"
10) "Motherboard"
11) "Fragments of Time"
12) "Doin' It Right"
13) "Contact"

Even if it's just me, I don't care. Get Lucky is my jam. Especially as it's nice out for the first time in AGES and it's like Daft Punk brought the sun back.

It's like, here is a new disco song from Daft Punk, it features Nile Rogers and Pharrell Williams. You know them from Chic and dropping hot things, respectively. May can't come soon enough.

Thanks, I was grooving out to the wrong version. This song really has some real instruments that I haven't heard in pop song in ages. Maybe the "wall of sound" can live again.

Surely BB fans who like Daft Punk would also like the disco version of Here Comes The Night. If you don't - you may be lying to yourselves.

Sort of OT, but speaking of BB connections and disco, I just realized that Joe Thomas' buddy and the "genius" who "wrote" Net-Surfin' USA, Steve Dahl, is the same guy who held the famous "disco sucks" record burning rally at Comiskey Park.

No.

Maybe this will be Daft Punk's 15 Big Ones?

They don't look too fat, but I can't tell if the beards are there due to them helmets.

This has leaked.

A week early.

My plan was to take the day off work and pick it up from my local record shop next Monday, get some beer, hang out with my bro, play the vinyl, feel amazing.

Or I could listen to a 192k webrip. I don't want to, BUT I WANT TO.

Goddammit.

Just listened to the leak today. Don't know quite what to make of it yet. Get Lucky is obviously incredible and there sounds like some other instant winners on there too (e.g. the other one with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers), but there are moments when it all seems a little too slow and empty. I'll live with a while - it may be a grower.

I've heard there's a rip of the itunes stream doing the rounds, but have yet to get my hands on it ...  ;)

So I finally got this today.

OH DUDE, IT IS SO FUCKING REAL

Like, I really understand why it's getting hate. But then, if Daft Punk say the entire point of this album is to move away from the heavy 'EDM' that they helped pioneer with their prior material,  and seeing as a lot of EDM is shite, it's a fine move. The dance tracks are so fly, really basic and grooving. But that makes you move more. heard Get Lucky in the club finally, and it made so much sense to me.

Fave tracks right now - all the Nile Rogers tracks, Contact, Touch (especially the honky tonk bit) Fragments of Time, and Giorgio By Moroder, which is fucking insane. I could feel the ballads, but not now. It might not be the Daft Punk album Gotham wants, but the Daft Punk album Gotham needs.

Not really my kind of music, but I really dig that groove in 'Get Lucky'.

See, if it was their last album - Human After All, which is so fucking basic and heavy it's unreal, and also is essentially the progenitor of 'EDM' (that is, Skrillex and his ilk) - I'd agree, but this one sounds nothing like modern dance music at all. If you like the groove in Get Lucky, you'd definitely find something to like here. Like, there's only one drum machine on the whole album.

I mean, check the opening track - Nile Rogers again on the groove http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxTHcKHdcWI

Speaking of drums, Omar Hakim is fucking sick. His beats on this are absolutely insane (Contact and Giorgio By Moroder, both of which utterly rule).

Still kinda not feeling the sad robot coke encrusted ballads on this, really? They're nice. Julian Casablanca's tune needs so much editing. Panda Bear's tune needs more writing. Most successful collaborators are the ones with some connection, actual or just based on love, to the kind of tunes they wanted to make - Nile, Paul Williams, apparently the first thing Pharrell said to them was 'I wanna make tunes like Chic' and the dude knows his way around the stuff anyway, just listen to Neptunes records...

Todd Edwards is also a hero for his track. What a jam, total 80 on the freeway with the top down sh*t.

Greatest sound. Although my brother put on Thriller just for something to listen the day after I first heard it and the penny dropped. But then, let's be real, if you have a benchmark for what you want your album to sound like, it's gotta be Thriller.

I do like the track and several others that I've heard over the years, but still can't see myself playing an entire album of theirs and succeeding in not getting bored/distracted.

Managing to sound like an ignorant prick - checked.

Yeah I played Off The Wall funnily enough straight after and also noticed how similar it sounded.

Can't get Beyond out of my head at the moment - beautiful.

Just listened to the whole album. Beach Boys influnces are everywhere. The biggest positive thrill this album gave me was the Daft Punk- Panda Bear (Noah Lennox of Animal Collective). The combination of their different styles really worked.

Oh inc case people weren't aware, originally Daft Punk was called Darlin' as a tribute to the Wild Honey song! http://www.discogs.com/artist/Darlin%27

Apparently the (then trio) were labelled making 'a bunch of daft punk'. One guy left and formed the band Phoenix, a great french band with an obsession for analogue synths and upbeat songs (definitely worth checking out). The remaining two took an interest in electronica and most of their material is electronica/house.

The new album however is more organic and very likeable for anyone who likes the BB and is open to hearing something new!

Paul Williams!

His song rules, too. When it goes into a honkytonk disco jam I can't help but be moved. It's Daft Punks 'A Day In The Life' - just listen to the strings!

Eh... not that fond of Thriller.

Still, I like the new album. Gave it a listen and it's not bad... the only song I didn't care for was Instant Crush. Everything else was fine (and Touch is a masterpiece).
