I recognize his wife and youngest daughter, but don't know others, though they look like Loves. The older guy does look like a brother. They both look like distant relatives of Vincent Van Gogh.

I figured it might be Stan after reading some of the things Steve has posted around the 'net slamming Mike. I just wasn't quite sure because he now looks so different from the last photos I'd seen of him, which are probably from the '70s.

No. As two seconds' research would tell you, Hindus, before celebrating their birthday in a secular manner, are meant to perform religious ceremonies ( pūjā ), including pūjā to Ganesh (which we see in some of the other pictures) and Shiva. The vibhuti, three horizontal white lines across the forehead, are a sign of devotion to Shiva and a way of purifying both the person who has them applied and anyone who looks upon him.

But of course that doesn't matter, does it? Just carry on ignorantly mocking the deeply-held beliefs of a billion or so people because they're a bit different from whatever it is *you* believe, rather than take two seconds to look anything up. After all, this way you get to insult someone who you rabidly hate for no good reason...

Stan has reminisced about it in interviews but not in any detail. He even had a website with memorabilia for sale to make a buck. That's before his son made it big in the NBA.

I have to wish Mike a belated happy birthday and wish him more to come..

That said, in the past year he hasn't exactly been the greatest example of the TM lifestyle. Apparently you can still be a manipulative backstabber while meditating four times a day.

That's funny.  As you well know, we say "Smart-ass" in the U.S.  And if I say that to somebody over here, it would have some impact if I called somebody a "Smart-ass". But if I called somebody a "Smart-arse" they might laugh or look at me funny and it wouldn't have any impact.

But maybe if I said "Smart-arse" with an English or Aussie accent......     ;D

It's easy to overlook this side of ML's life, seeing as he is the one always pushing the girls, cars and surfing image. He's not exactly George Harrison, using his music as a platform to espouse spiritual ideas. Of course, that would get him in trouble, too.

On his longer shows he does. I remember in 2008 he did a mini-set of TM/'spiritual' songs -- All This Is That, Cool Head Warm Heart, Everyone's In Love With You and Til I Die -- and talked about his beliefs in between them. It was the one bit of the show where he seemed to go from "extremely good professional entertainer" to "person who really wants to communicate something artistically".

And if you think about it, a *lot* of Mike's later stuff has little references in it. Even something like Kokomo has the line about defying gravity, which Mike said is a reference to yogic levitation.

For all Mike goes for the girls, sunshine and fun, fun, fun imagery, he isn't exactly the c*ck-waving, sock-down-the-pants rock star. His approach seems simply to be more that of the professional entertainer. He's a guy's guy for sure – do the Americans refer to them as a "Jock"? – but these days it's all good family fun. He ought to play with his cousin more. And his ol' pals.

M&S are doing a great range of cake flavoured biscuits these days.  I really like their carrot cake ones and the cherry bakewell ones as well.  They might even make cakes redundant  :police: Kinda like how Brian Wilson made Phil Spector redundant. :3d
