Title: Any news on The Drummer...!? Post by: lostbeachboy on March 10, 2013, 01:53:02 PM Or is it gonna be another thing that falls by the wayside...
Title: Re: Any news on The Drummer...!? Post by: Cabinessenceking on March 10, 2013, 02:41:52 PM Given that there is an anticipated Brian biopic starring a rather prominent actor it would make sense for the makers of the Dennis one to shelf their plans such that they don't compete for the same viewers, create confusion or face the inevitable comparisons which would be made. I'm also assuming they are still on the lookout for a lead. Anyway we should be looking forward to the Brian one and hopefully one on Dennis will tag along not much later ;)
I'm assuming Phil (if allowed) would state the complete opposite to what I just said... ^^ huehue Title: Re: Any news on The Drummer...!? Post by: Jim V. on March 10, 2013, 05:47:55 PM Honestly, I really want it to happen, mostly because I'm sure a soundtrack with previously unreleased Denny material would come from it.
But unfortunately since they lost Aaron Eckhart, who I'm pretty sure was also a producer of some kind for it, I'm not too hopeful that it's gonna happen ever. I also thought the choice of Vera Farmiga for Christine McVie was great too. I really think it woulda been great. Title: Re: Any news on The Drummer...!? Post by: Awesoman on March 10, 2013, 06:38:29 PM Maybe they'll go forward with their plans for The Rhythm Guitarist Dentist.
Or The Guy That Wrote "I Write The Songs" :lol Title: Re: Any news on The Drummer...!? Post by: Aegir on March 10, 2013, 09:57:37 PM A movie on Bruce or Al would be the funniest thing in the world.
Anyway, they try to make movies like this all the time, and the two that they made sucked so hard. and the rest just don't get made. these are the only two options for Beach Boys films. Title: Re: Any news on The Drummer...!? Post by: MBE on March 10, 2013, 11:51:41 PM I don't like these kind of films anyway. They never stick to facts and all of them could without too much trouble. I think getting out more LP/CD packages is the way to go for Dennis to be best served.

They never stick to facts and all of them could without too much trouble. I think getting out more LP/CD packages is the way to go for Dennis to be best served. I also don't much care for biopics, particularly the recent musical biopic genre. My problem is that they tend to cram as many details about the life of the musician into two hours, to make an interesting narrative out of them, and to try to convince the audience of the historical significance of their musical legacy and to throw as many of the artist's songs onto the soundtrack as possible. The result is generally that they fail on all fronts: important historical facts are ignored or changed, the narrative flow is overly forced, the filmmaker's evangelical urge to sell the artist's significance to the audience comes across as heavy-handed, and the soundtrack contains so many short snippets of so many songs that none of them can have any effect. I think it would be especially difficult for a film about Dennis, who, in spite of his membership in one of the most popular rock bands ever, is not the band's best known musical performer. Thus, the film would have to be even more heavy-handed and evangelical than usual to try to convince the audience of its musician's greatness. The one good argument for a Dennis Wilson movie that I've seen here is that, if the movie is popular, we might see some more unreleased Dennis songs come out. After the Pacific Ocean Blue box was so well-received, I had been hoping that there might be some sort of release of the songs from his first unreleased solo album, but too much time has passed since then. On the other hand, I'm not sure it's safe to assume that a movie about Dennis Wilson would be a hit. Title: Re: Any news on The Drummer...!? Then I put 2 and 2 together (2 and 2 always makes a 5) ;) Title: Re: Any news on The Drummer...!? Post by: lostbeachboy on March 15, 2013, 06:01:09 PM Actors Stephen Dorff, Kendall Schmidt and Andrew Wilson (brother of Luke and Owen) would be my choices to play Dennis.
Title: Re: Any news on The Drummer...!? Post by: donald on March 15, 2013, 08:45:06 PM John Corbett would make a good Dennis. I always thought he looked a bit like DW. Remember his character on Norther Exposure? Put a little mania and drug fog in that and it could definitely work. He even has a sweet side he does well.
But then, I'm the guy who would have cast Isabella Rosalinni and Rrobert Redford in Bridges of Madison County. |
