I've never really payed much attention before until recently, but it sure does seem that Mike Love likes using Facebook a lot.  Not sure if it's really a publicist or someone else running the show, but it sure does seem like Mike Love himself is writing those posts.  During the Super Bowl he was practically giving the play-by-play of the game.  He seems a lot more Facebook-savvy than his fellow Beach Boys.  Anyone else notice this?

All I'm suggesting is that it really does seem like most of those posts are by Mike.  At the very least, he must be dictating for someone what to post. 

Why wouldn't Mike post at least some of the posts on Facebook? It's not rocket science, the posts aren't that complex, and Mike is a bright man. It's also a good opportunity to improve his image with Beach Boys' fans. I can easily see Mike writing those Superbowl posts and they fit his personality. How hard is it to type from his iPhone or iPad or MacBook while he's sitting on the sofa of his house watching the game?  It can also be true that his promoters post things like upcoming dates.  That seems to be true of other celeb Facebook pages, they're a combination of publicity blurbs posted by staffers and the "star" sometimes drops in. It's good PR.

The superbowl ones threw me off. Maybe he does do it sometimes, but of course a lot of it is just promotion.

Some of it definitely reads to me like it's really him. Either that or he has a PR person who's either totally incompetent (because some of the stuff is badly-spelled or ungrammatical) or *extremely* good (because they can convincingly fake being the real Mike Love).
Most of it is, of course, done by someone else, though.
If any of it *is* him, I'm amazed he posts with such good humour, given the amount of ignorant abuse he gets on there.

Any PR worth their salt can write/'talk' in the manner of their client. Basic Brianspeak is a doddle for anyone here.

True. Mike would be harder though. I'll take your word for it that it's all (rather than just mostly) Mike's PR, in which case I'm *very* impressed at how well they're doing it.

I dunno...  put me in the group that thinks at least *some* of the posts are really Mike.  Some are obviously PR, but a few recent entries lead me to think maybe Mike posts occasionally.

I don't know if Mike is thumbing them himself on on his own phone, but I can believe some are his words and some are staff fluff.

Mike used to comment how he had never used a computer and implied he didn't really want to.  Has that changed?

He certainly didn't sound too clued-up on technology in the shows last year where he told the audience to "call Amazon" to order the album...
That said, pretty much everyone in the world except me has some kind of smartphone or whatever, now, don't they? I'd be amazed if he didn't own some sort of net-connected device, given how much he travels, even if he doesn't know how to use it properly.

Definitely saw Mike typing what could've been a text and/or social media post on a smart phone last summer at the Central Park GMA taping.

You'd think their publicist would tell them to post themselves: I'd 'like' a lot more of their status' if Brian or Mike were posting about touring/recording themselves - and thus more of my friends would see who I was liking. It would only make them more money and get them closer to their fanbase.

If I thought Mike was posting on facebook I'd actually like his page.

If twitter was around in the 1970s, Dennis would be tweeting constantly. Brian's twitter feed in 1974-1976 would be hard to take as he tweets his decline.

The entire band was using iPhone to communicate during the tour, including the old guy principals. Al Jardine even said so and said he had a hard time getting the hang of it but was trying. I really don't understand why some people insist that Mike would never post on Facebook or knows how to use a computer, even.  It's not that hard to believe or that controversial.  But whatever.  I wonder what it would pay to post things about Dorito commercials during the Super Bowl and pretend you're Mike Love. If it wasn't Mike himself, they deserved a bonus for that.

I like to think Mike posts on facebook....he got his iPhone out on "In My Room" last year on C50...and I heckled him via facebook when he was doing the roundabout dedication a few months back, yielding a response! :lol

Whoever posts on these social media pages does a good job. The new pictures are a great reason to follow/befriend them and so what if it's not actually them. They are megastars! I just like seeing updates, photos, dedications etc.

The only reason i questioned whether Mike was now using a personal computer, like a desk-top version, not an iPhone, is because I have read several times over the last several years, attributed to him if not a direct quote, that he never has/had and wasn't interested in doing so. I would have no reason or ability to comment on it otherwise. And no, I can't cite a specific source.

I have to bring back this topic. Been following Mike on FB and find it fascinating. The vignettes on little facts of life, like Thanksgiving or his daughter's Prom, I find very moving. Direct, concise, emotional and effective.  The guy has a real talent for it, and I doubt these posts are written by a PR. Makes me think that he could come up with a really well-written book. And there must be one or two classic new lyrics if the desirable working conditions were given.

I agree. Just read his stream-of-consciousness abstract on Ambha's prom and personal future. Very touching and indeed - the lyrical talent is still there: direct, relatable and on the right side of sentimentalism. I second the notion that he should write a book someday.

Think it's safe to say that Mike posts more than the rest of the band put together (that is, he actually writes his own posts). Most of them are really him.

I think it's safe to say that he posts everything he signs ("Peace n Love - ML") while all the old pictures and setlists are from his publicist or whomever would be doing that sort of thing.

I imagine Mike has become tech savvy and social media proficient for the same reason a lot of us have: it is the only way to contact and hear back from your kids in a timely fashion.

Wow, some people sure do hate Mike, or at least underestimate him, on this board. I'm sure he doesn't post everything on his board, but the more personal stuff? Anyone really think he's not capable of reflecting on his daughter's prom night or his feelings on receiving the Ella Award?  The "voice" of the writing isn't dissimilar to the way he talks in interviews.   

Of course it's Mike. And I look forward to his writings weekly. I think the above poster was paraphrasing (and making fun of) an old post by AGD.

Things like the prom stuff are his, I guess. Other posts like '36 years ago we recorded Good Vibrations" are more likely to be written by staff.

I agree, Mr. Bear. On quick glancing it doesn't seem like everything's written by Mike, roughly it's 60 to 40 (1st being Mike). But I have no doubt he can manage to write basic SMS/WhatsApp message, if we talk about Mike's tech stuff abilities in general, not just FB.

It's possible someone on his staff types while he dictates. The posts would still be his.

If you're going to comment on something I've said, at least try to have the smarts to do it accurately. It stops you looking like a bit of an idiot. I didn't say all the FB posts were his. Because they're not.  :)
