Thanks, because almost all of those pictures are mine!  I sent them to Carli around the time of the Bambu release, and now he put his own copyright on them...  I'm going to have to contact that boy!

Nice interview. I have to say though I find his songs some of the least impressive Dennis related stuff. "Under the Moonlight" is nice enough but I find "all alone" and "its not too late" somehow ruined by the jazzy chord progressions, It just not Dennis (Which its not of course). Constant Companion is my favourite of the CM tracks.

"All alone" and "Under the moonlight" are great imo. But "It's not too late", although it starts promising, doesn't do very much to me. I wouldn't blame it on jazzy chord progressions ("Under the moonlight" has a straight Rock'n'Roll progression for example) but in case of "It's not too late" it just sounds unfinished, in terms of recording AND songwriting.

you guys are crazy. carli's songs are my favorite songs on bambu. it's not too late is amazing. what a great carl vocal.


also, this interviewer is a joke. carli was so generous with giving such great answers to such poorly worded questions.

Simply put, I don't think any of the Carli Munoz songs that Dennis did were any good. "It's Not Too Late" is boring and plodding. "All Alone" sounds like the theme song to a late '70s soap opera. "Under The Moonlight" is just a shitty attempt at a lusty rock 'n roll song that Denny could do better on his own. And the worst for last: "Constant Companion". Ugh. The shitty '70s horn part. The cheesy arrangement. Just a horrendous song all around. Honestly, everything that was worthy of release from the Bambu era got released during Dennis' lifetime. "Baby Blue" and "Love Surrounds Me" are soooo much better than anything else from that era. Except "Only With You". That one was pretty great too with a Dennis lead, rather than Carl. And if he'd have released Bambu during his lifetime, he also would have been smart to include "Tug Of Love" and "Flowers Come In The Spring" (rerecording of "Lady"), which were both from the Pacific Ocean Blue sessions.

I think Constant Companion and It's Not Too Late are amazing, All Alone is great and Under The Moonlight is mehh.

It seems like an e-mail interview to me. All of the questions were probably written out before answers were given.

Thanks for posting the interview, Pinder. Carli seems like a very articulate man. And, the band rocked when he was in it. I wasn't quite sure about one thing. Carli wasn't exactly clear why he left the band. Was it voluntary?

As is understandable-when one is talking about events of 40 years ago-memories are a little off.  He mentions how Jack did the interview with the BBs and than he went on tour with them in 1969.  Jack did the interview on July 29 1970.  And Carli first toured with them in June 1971.

Given that Jack's full name is John Frank Rieley III, I doubt it.

It's Not Too Late is beautiful (although i prefer the more understated bootleg version).

All Alone - hmm, nice vocal from Dennis but i could do without the sax and not much of a tune really...

Moonlight is dreadful. What a horrible album opener! It's hardly 'River Song' is it?

As has been said, Dennis' Bambu songs were almost all superior to Carli's. Whether Dennis wanted an album of Carli songs only because of a lack of confidence in his own incredible songwriting talents or just out of the goodness of his heart (or just because he genuinely loved them!), i'm very glad he decided to write some songs of his own.
