I needed to watch this after that, to get my head together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnreN5LsjvQ Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: SMiLE Brian on February 15, 2013, 11:33:55 AM Mike Love needs to show up there and call them out.
Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: EgoHanger1966 on February 15, 2013, 11:34:14 AM Sedaka should sue. Or, at the very least, be very offended.
Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: guitarfool2002 on February 15, 2013, 11:40:29 AM Yeah, the banner hanging on stage that reads "Presented by Bud Light" is just about the only thing you'd need to know about that one....
Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: SMiLE Brian on February 15, 2013, 11:51:14 AM This group is about the worst "surf" themed group I have ever heard. They are a yuppie parody of the 1960s.

I don't even remember the year, but I was watching the NBA All-Star festivities and contests on TV, with Barkley and the usual NBA hosts working the commentary. One of the musical guests was Meat Loaf and his band. It seemed like Meat was having an off-night, and both he and the band didn't seem to be clicking with the song or the venue for whatever reasons. After the performance, they opened the commentators' microphones for reactions and the bump to the next event. Charles Barkley was the first to speak. His exact first words over the live mic: "What the hell was that?" ;D Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Cabinessenceking on February 15, 2013, 03:20:56 PM This group is about the worst "surf" themed group I have ever heard. Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Shady on February 15, 2013, 04:31:29 PM That show was better shot than the beach boys live DVD

Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Mr. Cohen on February 15, 2013, 11:27:45 PM This is amazing. A true tribute to Mike Love's vision for the Beach Boys; a pure distillation of the hair that long ago fled Mike's pate. I'm sure if Mike saw this, he'd cry tears of joy. He's just a sentimental sap, you know.

Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Gertie J. on February 16, 2013, 10:47:18 AM what the heck is hekember?
Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Shady on February 16, 2013, 12:11:57 PM what the heck is hekember? Unreleased Beach Boys track Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Aegir on February 16, 2013, 11:06:04 PM what the heck is hekember? it's a play on 13/01/26; if you imagine it month date year, the thirteenth month has no name. december means ten (july and august were added later, so originally december was the 10th month). in the same way that deca is ten, hekdeca is eleven. so I named this fictional thirteenth month hekember. Hekember 1st, 2026. makes sense to me, I don't know. Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Dutchie on February 17, 2013, 04:14:24 AM i strangly like it. Its doo wop with surf sound. Its very catchy. If youre talking about the clothing i agree but thats not the point i think. Listen with youre eyes closed :)

Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Aegir on February 17, 2013, 09:46:30 AM Lame-surf bands like this always feel they have to have fake live videos where it's so obviously from the vocals that they're using a studio recording.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pVxsRgM_u8 - OC Beach Band, doesn't even bother to include audience noise. I'm pretty sure at least some of the audio for most of these is taken directly from Chris Farmer's "California Dreamin'" album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHF7IZSFbKU - witness the fascinating double-tracked live vocals of Papa Doo Run Run! interspersed with an obviously thrown in "come on, sing it" to make it SEEM like it's a live vocal. Should've double tracked that one too, eh?! Title: Re: The Dukes of Surf \ Post by: Aegir on February 17, 2013, 09:47:53 AM This group is about the worst "surf" themed group I have ever heard.
