Title: Kraftwerk!!!!!!!! Post by: SMiLE-addict on February 12, 2013, 08:26:50 PM Perhaps the nerdiest band ever.
Have only listened to a few of their albums, but Computer World (1981) is easily the nerdiest I've heard. Computer Love (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtWTUt2RZh0) Pocket Calculator (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSBybJGZoCU) It's More Fun to Compute (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3odl-KoNZwk) Title: Re: Kraftwerk!!!!!!!! Post by: I. Spaceman on February 12, 2013, 08:31:45 PM It is irony.
Title: Re: Kraftwerk!!!!!!!! Post by: tony p on February 26, 2013, 03:17:00 PM Theyve said in many interviews how The Beach Boys were a big influence
Not so much musically, but the fact that they represented California the same way that Kraftwerk wanted to represent Germany they said something along the lines of "if you wanna know what Califronia was like in the early 60s, just listen to the BBs" they hoped to give the listeners the same experience of how Germany through their music Title: Re: Kraftwerk!!!!!!!! Title: Re: Kraftwerk!!!!!!!! Post by: SMiLE-addict on February 26, 2013, 07:16:30 PM So, are we to presume, then, that Germans are a bunch of robots? :D

Ralf Hutter takes a hiatus in 1971. So Florian Schneider gets the guys who eventually formed NEU! (my favourite Krautrock band) to play with him. They make this https://soundcloud.com/nazikus/sets/kraftwerk-k4 Title: Re: Kraftwerk!!!!!!!! Post by: hypehat on February 27, 2013, 07:31:12 AM Reasons why Kraftwerk Fucking Rule #67
The Telephone Call, from the Electric Cafe/Techno Pop album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BQsJb7w83w Reasons Why Kraftwerk Fucking Rule #41 This amazing 41 minute long live version of Autobahn from 1974 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNjwJLDic3o As your prior point, saying they're LOL NERDZ, and even I. Spaceass saying that it's all irony, is different facets of missing the point. It would be like calling the work of Fritz Lang, the filmmaker who made Metropolis, 'nerdy'. They're futurists, and I believe they were sincere (which is not to try and say 'Pocket Calculator' is supposed to be serious, sincerity doesn't mean you can't have a joke or two) - their music explores a lot of what's become prevalent in modern discourse, such as the disconnect afforded to us by ever-advancing tech, which is a very human concern for guys who pretended to be robots. What's of course bizarre now is that Kraftwerks vision of the future is obsolete in some ways, or taken for granted. And even they became obsolete, strangely. They're now the electronic equivalent of The Who or something, barely releasing new music and touring like mad. Title: Re: Kraftwerk!!!!!!!! Went to see Kraftwerk at Latitude on Saturday. Good show! Title: Re: Kraftwerk!!!!!!!! Post by: Wrightfan on November 05, 2013, 08:14:32 AM Didn't see this posted. Just got into them very big in the last couple of weeks.
Too bad I didn't find them a year earlier. They were at MOMA not too long ago. |
