Title: Swearing on Honkin' Down The Highway?
Post by: SonicVolcano on February 06, 2013, 12:00:02 PM
I was listening to this amazing song on Spotify and then suddenly I heard something I didn't expect: the word f * c k at around 1:21. As if Al made a mistake, because I think it's him.

Is it just me or...?

What has been heard...

No, I hear something like that, too.

And to hijack this thread for a moment so I can ask a different minor musical question, listen to "Don't Fence Me In", which was featured in a Western in the '40s and became quite popular: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5OoiWGygq4

At about 1:34, the same exact bass motif featured prominently in "Rio Grande" is played! Surely just a coincidence? It pops up again in the song, too.

And we all know how "That's Why God Made The Radio" sounds quite similar to "Midnight Cowboy" in places. Brian loves his Westerns, I guess.

Midnight Cowboy isn't really a Western.

OK, fair enough. But now I'm listening "Corns For My Country" by the Andrews Sisters and that motif pops up yet again. I think it's safe to say Brian was quite aware of this group. Bing Crosby's contemporaneous take of "You Are My Sunshine" could've been an inspiration, too.

That's such a stock "western" riff it could have come to Brian by any number of ways.

Yes, exactly.

You should also apologize to SonicVolcano for blatantly derailing his or her thread when there's already one for random questions of little significance such as yours.

Why? He wasn't the one that did it.

Al swore because at that exact moment Mike leaned over and whispered in his ear "Hey, guess what? For our next record we're gonna make another Christmas Album!"

Indeed, as one of Carls tasks as 'mixdown producer' was to edit the wailing sobs of Jardine off the remaining tracks

Kind of ironic for there to be some hidden swearing in a song which would be so clean to say "goshdarn" in the lyrics.  :lol
