Title: Timothy Leary on...BW?
Post by: Doo Dah on January 15, 2013, 10:36:52 PM
So I came upon an interview of Dr. Leary (via Dangerous Minds). Conducted shortly before the doctor departed this mortal coil, he was interviewed by the infamous Canadian punk rock gadfly, 'Nuadwuar'. Nuadwuar has a long history of conducting odd, stream of conscious interviews with celebrities - some of which roll with it, some of whom take offense.

Anyway, here's the interview - with a question posed by Nuadwuar c/o acid and Brian Wilson. The doctor opines on Brian at 2:43.  ::) The BW segment runs for about a minute.

I'm still not convinced he knew which Brian he was talking about, since he based his initial reaction on Brian Jones before someone corrected him. Leary was more interesting 40+ years ago, IMO.

If he hasn't done so already, that Canadian host-dude should also interview Bob Weir and devote the entire interview to giving him different brain-f*** riddles. I'd pay to see that.   :)

Who knows? Maybe he genuinely feels that, but you wonder how much the situation of being interviewed for a youth audience by this irreverent guy encourages Leary to be audacious and over the top. Then, for all we know Leary's opinion may be based on 1st hand experience of Brian. Certainly Tony Asher described Brian as an 'amateur human being' so it's not a million miles from that.

Taking a Narduwar interview as a real interview is never a good idea, it's all just a joke.

Nardwaur is awesome and it's so much more funny when his subjects are made uncomfortable/pissed off by his questions to or archaeological finds about them, haha.

It almost seems that Leary didn't know/recall Brian at his hit-making days. It's downright dismissive to say those things about Brian Wilson unless you have a qualifier. It makes more sense if all Dr. Leary knows of Brian Wilson is his Landy (and post-Landy) era. To strengthen that, Leary doesn't make ANY mention of musical accomplishments. You'd think he would have known about them, maybe it was the many doses.....

Dispensing brain-f*** riddles to Bob Weir....

Were a bus to hit me tomorrow, if somehow I merited admission to the pearly gates where Shindig's Jimmy O'Neill stood in his finest threads, if he asked me what I had learned in this world, I could now proudly answer:

"I have learned what Canadians are really excellent at besides curling."

Then I'd ask him where I could get this jacket:

Nadwaur is awesome and has/had a cool garage band called The Evaporators

His interview with Jimmie Walker is one that really has good banter.
