Not exactly the same thing.  The Stones recently rehearsed for about 8 weeks just to perform 7 (6 public, 1 private) shows over a month's time  to commemorate their 50th Anniversary this year.  Keith is right when he says it'd be silly to do all that work for very little shows. 

The Beach Boys, on the other hand, rehearsed what...about 2 weeks (?) and then embarked on a 80+ date tour.  They also continued to add new songs throughout the tour by rehearsing for them during sound checks.  They got more than their money's worth for all the preparation they put in.   So...not really the same thing as Keith saying they ought to keep going.  The Beach Boys set a goal and met it.  The amount of work and effort put in by the band justified the end result.  They did extremely well.

Not to mention, The Beach Boys put out a brand new album of all original material in the process.... The Stone put out yet another "best of" with two new songs......

The Stones tours are WAY more lucrative than Beach Boys' tours, including the 50th anniversary reunion tour. Compare ticket prices. They're not even remotely close.  Mike Love and Co. make a decent living touring they way they are minus the entourage and overhead of the reunion tour. Whereas the Stones only tour when they tour, with several years spacing in between to increase demand when they do tour. In fact, the Stones tour proves Mike's point that ticket prices can rise higher if a classic rock group waits a few years between tours. Only problem is that Mike is doing the touring in between, which reduces the demand for high priced reunion shows. Maybe the Beach Boys 50th would have commanded higher ticket prices if Mike had not been touring all those years as the BB.

I don't know if that's really a factor since most "real fans" avoid the M&B gigs like a plague and the M&B band play roller rinks, swap meets, bingo halls, corporate parties, and the like: well under the radar where the 50th Tour played the best houses in the world to great mainstream applause.

I know I'll be proven wrong but every story I read or every interview I watched highlighted the members reuniting rather than Mike and Bruce using the name for 14 years. Aside from a few issues, I can't fault the C50 however The Stones have copped some flak over their concert prices both for their 50th gigs and in the past.

I regret more for not shelling out for a front row, or even a VIP ticket to C50, but I'd be content with nosebleed seats for the Stones. The only way I'd pay for good seats at a Stones show for the prices they charge is if they were guaranteed to do exclusively Brian Jones-era material, with an emphasis on the Satanic Majesties' album, and Blondie Chaplin gets to steal the spotlight from Mick and Keith for a song or two (Will never happen!!!).

Pretty much all the 'real fans' I know in the UK go and see Mike & Bruce every time they come over here. But then again, when they do come over, it tends to be to play decent-sized venues, not the county-fair type places they play in the US.

Seems the 50th Tour  forgot a few of the best houses...

I'm looking forward to M&B (hmmm...those initials look vaguely familiar...) playing my neighborhood block party this summer. Will be sure to have lots of vegetarian cuisine on hand for Mike; and lots of old men in shorts for Bruce to hang with.

Make sure you charge your neighbors for that cuisine or else you're a socialist ;) ;)
