Title: Hate to be a downer...
Post by: Dave in KC on December 24, 2012, 10:04:24 PM
The new album and all it's spawn could never equal the magnificance of the Live in Concert album of 1973. Just calling it as it should be called.

Can't even compare the two. Apples and oranges. Live album, studio album.

You wanna compare something to the '73 live album with material from that era?  Try Carnegie Hall or Syracuse or Hartford or Philly or Nassau or MSG or any other shows from '72 - '75. Munich & RFH. Beachago is another favorite of yo.

Or compile a 2012 live album from the 50th and see if that comes close to the '73 album. Probably not. No Carl, no Dennis, no Blondie, no Ricky.

I love the '73 live album to death - played it almost every day for a long time. Wore out the 8-track and vinyl and had to buy it again. But comparing it to the new album, c'mooooon!

I thought Dave was meaning any 'new' Live album?

Of course, they were close to 40 years younger and Carl and Dennis were still alive. Considering all they've been through, particularly the B-man, i'm surprised the 50th anniversary reunion concerts and the album were so good.

I don't believe anyone was attempting a comparison.

Well, this was certainly a pointless thread. Nice work, OP.

It'll never be as good as Queen's 'Live Magic' or the UK Subs 'Crash Course' either.  :afro

Fun fact: Bobby Vee's 1966 version of Here Today replaces this lyric with "..you won't have a bit of a whirl".
