OK, I've been a fan since 1991, and Friends has been my favorite album probably since 1992.

I was showing my roommates the album cover on my laptop and standing above it, looking down at it (it was upside down from my vantage point).

Instantly I saw something I had NEVER seen before (but probably most of you have).

OK.  I'm going to go look now.

I was trying to post an upside down picture to make it easy, but kept getting an error message.

There's another painting of the five of them if you turn the cover upside down.

Is that what you were refering too, the 'reflection'-type painting beneath them? I was hoping for some kind of grand revelation here...

I actually never noticed that, cool.

If you "think outside the box", you can kind of make out what looks like John Lennon. Or some Beatle.

The face left of the painting has always looked like Macca to me

It took me long years before I even thought of holding the 'Holland' sleeve upside down...  :-[

Paul is dead?

Me too!  But not as long as it took for me to look at Friends upside down!  And yes, no grand revelation for most here...it was the faces that I hadn't noticed before.

I saw that reflection the first time I looked at the FRIENDS cover years ago, but found it a bit odd that only five faces are there, when there are six in the clouds, and of course we see six Beach Boys in the center.  And then we've got what appears to be 1/2 of the Beatles as trees!  Obviously Paul on the left, and I'm guessing George(?) on the right. 

What a very cool cover! The photo on the back is great too!

The clouds form into the shape of a phone number, and if you call it, you find out that Bruce does not exist.

Took me about five years to realise the damn thing was printed upside down !  :thud

Oddly, the Australian version has the cover photo the correct way up. Very few people are aware of this...

Ahh, But the second issue fo the USA cassette does have it right side up!

Memo to myself:  Always read AGD's posts in full before racing off at speed to record collection...

Despite owning the albums for years, I only just noticed that the Australian World Record Club editions of Friends substituted Diamond Head with Good Vibrations  :o

Not only that, the Paul to the left of Bruce seems to be in his early young rocker phase..

Thanks for posting the Holland Cassette insert.  Very interesting!  The picture itself is pretty mundane when it's right side up and doesn't have the title on it.  Also, the track order is very interesting.

I'd love to know who all the faces in the clouds and trees are supposed to be.

Looks like Al and definitely Carl in the clouds to the right. What  about the face with sunglasses... Spector?
I think the tree on the right is actually Bruce (for some reason) and the tree on the left certainly looks like Paul.

speaking of album covers, who's who on the Endless Summer cover? my guess is (left to right) Dennis, Carl, Brian, Mike, Al. but Mike doesn't really look anything like Mike and Carl doesn't really look anything like Carl. also, what a creepy cover. I can't believe this is one of the best-selling Beach Boys albums of all time. You'd think a lot of people would've been turned off by this cover.

I was definitely turned off by the Endless Summer cover when I heard it at age 8 or 9. Maybe even a little frightened. Those bearded faces did not match the voices on the songs.

It was only a few days ago that I realised that the clouds in the Friends cover were made up of faces.

I always thought the green face on the right was Donovan, the left one McCartney. A nice album art. I counted the faces once (obviously my life is very exciting) and missed the upside down ones and just goes to show that it's full of surprises.

Wow, never noted that the guy on the right is Donovan. It all comes together for me right now, Mike having just been to India where both Paul and Donovan were! Donovan was the missing link for me in making Paul's appearance logically. Rishikesh, Trancedental Meditation, Friends... :afro

Och aye? Are you labouring under the mistaken impression perhaps that I live in Scotland and that this artist chappie must be a Scot because his surname begins with "Mc"?
