The dukes of surf Post by: Eric Aniversario on December 22, 2012, 12:51:38 AM I think these guys mean well, and want to pay tribute to the Beach Boys' early sound, and are probably cool guys in their everyday lives, but this stuff is way too contrived and clean-sounding. Sampled a few tracks and was struck by how similar sounding they were in their production.

Grand Funk's "Locomotion", for instance. and Madonna's first album sounds just like BB'85 (although it came out in 83 so I guess the Beach Boys sound like Madonna?)

Reminded me a lot of the 'Mints, and that's a really good thing! They easily coulda done something like this. Downside: The video, although loaded with quite a bit of eye-candy for us guys, made me feel like I was watching a very long tv commercial from the 80s.
