Title: Singles that are musical siblings Post by: harrisonjon on December 16, 2012, 05:49:59 AM I've often thought of WIBN as being a sibling of California Girls, maybe more sophisticated and with a higher IQ (because it was born later). There seems a natural progression there in form and sound. The Little Girl I Once Knew is less of a sibling to WIBN but is more akin to other Pet Sounds tracks.

Title: Re: Singles that are musical siblings Post by: Sam_BFC on December 16, 2012, 10:29:56 AM I guess I've always seen Little Girl and California Girls as kind of like musical siblings: both got monster intros, Brian at the top of the vocal stack in the chorus. But I guess we could relate a lot of songs with each other. For some reason I also relate Girl Don't Tell Me and You're So Good To Me.

Title: Re: Singles that are musical siblings Post by: Eric Aniversario on December 17, 2012, 12:46:12 AM I've always thought that Do It Again and Keepin' The Summer Alive were pretty similar, in that the theme was similar, and that there was a slower and mellower part in the middle.

And Palisades Park is their even stranger cousin from Europe. Me too! They're cut from the same cloth. As well, I've always maintained that Surfin Safari (the album) is similar to Smiley Smile. They both exude a kind of homemade quality -- humble, hopelessly naive and goofy giddy fun. One was cut on Soda pop, the other on Hash joints. :lol Title: Re: Singles that are musical siblings Post by: Loaf on December 17, 2012, 08:44:32 AM Good Timin and Goin On remind me of each other.

The Undisputed Truth - Smiling Faces, Sometimes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhmrnYbIVqs sounds just like the chorus of Leon Heywood's "I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukuXUKRVu6c I never could understand who ripped off who, or if was just a coincidence, or if the session bassist just screwed one of them out of an original bassline or something. I still haven't figured it out. Dr. Dre famously sampled the intro for Nothin' But a G Thang, and then sampled Smiling Faces for "The Wash"... when it's the same damn beat. somebody should have sued somebody. |
