Title: Lonely Sea Post by: sockittome on December 01, 2012, 04:41:17 PM This is one beautiful underrated song, imo. The melody is haunting and Brian's lead, although a bit rough, is effectively sad and longing.
I noticed a number of people ranked it #1 over on the Surfin' USA thread, while a few people voiced their dislike for it. I can't help but wonder if a tighter performance and less primitive mix would have made this song more hitworthy. As someone pointed out in the Remasters thread, the mono mix is so much better than the stereo. Still, I'm surprised they didn't rerecord it for Surfin' USA. Is the version on "Surfin' USA" the same as the one on the tape that Murry gave to Capitol to try to get the boys a contract?
