Title: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Pretty Funky on November 06, 2012, 07:37:23 PM Enough guessing. Here it is!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TefY7mb13bA Ok. On first watch. FFF auto tuned to death and a lot of crowd shots in 2 plus minutes. Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Bubba Ho-Tep on November 06, 2012, 07:49:01 PM I think it looks and sounds pretty good, polished and professional as expected. I like the cameras getting right in there with the band. I agree that there are too many shots of the audience, but hopefully that's just for the trailer. I definitely wouldn't want an hour of them cutting to a different camera every 2 seconds like that. It would likely give me a seizure. I will purchase the item at the appropriate time and give a fair and accurate review.
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: joshferrell on November 06, 2012, 07:54:45 PM all that crowd cheering is annoying,I hope it isn't that way throughout the dvd.. :-\
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Justin on November 06, 2012, 07:55:19 PM I'm pretty sure the audience shot was in benefit for the trailer. Let's hope.
Aside from that, it really looks fantastic. I'm sure it would look sparkling on BluRay. The vocals are definitely dipped in fairy dust, hopefully it won't be a huge distraction. I'm looking forward to it. Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Aegir on November 06, 2012, 09:34:47 PM the lead vocals sound pretty processed, but the visual aspect of this is great. this made me really excited for this DVD actually.

Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: ontor pertawst on November 06, 2012, 11:45:25 PM I hope they have a "multiple angles" option so we can watch all audience shots, all day!
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: puni puni on November 07, 2012, 12:07:51 AM Who the f*** keeps putting autotune on them?
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: PS on November 07, 2012, 01:10:14 AM My worst fears have been realized - clearly this will be chop job, cut after cut after cut with no apparent purpose except to keep up a sense of false excitement, when the music itself is exciting enough...I suspect the trailer and the film will be similar in style. Audience shots should be in the beginning and end of a song only, or for an occasional cutaway, not a performer/audience/performer/audience/ dialectical montage. Ugh. Can't watch it. Like McCartney's BS concert editing.

Audience shots should be in the beginning and end of a song only, or for an occasional cutaway, not a performer/audience/performer/audience/ dialectical montage. Ugh. Can't watch it. Like McCartney's BS concert editing. It's a trailer! It's quite probably not even edited by the same person who edited the DVD itself. Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Jukka on November 07, 2012, 01:24:50 AM I'm not that worried about the fast edits - movie trailers and movies are two different things. But the vocals do sound a tad too processed, and what about the backing tracks? Unbeliveably wimpy! I know, it's the Beach Boys and vocals should be up front, but this is rock music, played at stadiums and arenas, make at least the drums sound like it!
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Rob Dean on November 07, 2012, 01:50:25 AM Hey judging how gorgeous looking some of the ladies in the crowd are I just want audience shots :lol
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Lowbacca on November 07, 2012, 03:28:25 AM Sheesh that trailer is annoying. :-\ What PS said, basically. Sure hope that editing style, vocal processing and amount of audience shots doesn't really represent what the DVD's main content looks and sounds like. But yeah... I'll buy it anyway. :-X
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: EgoHanger1966 on November 07, 2012, 04:17:18 AM You can hear Brian in the vocal stack - that's what he must have been doing in the studio right after the tour commenced.
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: absinthe_boy on November 07, 2012, 04:34:04 AM Enough guessing. Here it is! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TefY7mb13bA Ok. On first watch. FFF auto tuned to death and a lot of crowd shots in 2 plus minutes. WTF is that? Autotuned to death, likely overdubbed. Worse than Peter Gabriel Plays Live :-( Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Roger Ryan on November 07, 2012, 05:06:55 AM Given that the crowd shots appear to be synched to the appropriate song (we see audience members singing along with "Fun, Fun, Fun" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice"), I'm pretty sure what we're seeing is actual clips from the final edit. The thing is with a Beach Boys show is that neither the performers nor the audience are particularly interesting visually; it's all about what we hear. For this reason, trying to create false excitement through fast cuts becomes a distraction. All the same, it looks like it will be a slick product and no more offensive than McCartney's more recent live DVDs (not that I enjoy watching those much).
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Rocker on November 07, 2012, 06:04:19 AM Sounds like the "Doin' it again" special. Well, no matter what reasons they had, I can't say that I'm not disappointed with this as it looks.
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Bubba Ho-Tep on November 07, 2012, 07:16:02 AM WTF is that? Autotuned to death, likely overdubbed. Unlike nearly every other live concert DVD release in history, right? Autotune! Overdubs! Oh no! How dare The Beach Boys violate the long standing musical tradition of releasing live albums/concert videos totally raw with no studio overdubs! What did you expect? For them to roll it out onto the Walmart shelves with Brian singing off-key? Seriously, I think some of you people are living in a world of fantasy or something. Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Aegir on November 07, 2012, 08:34:35 AM Bubba, you're treating it like this sounds like every other concert DVD ever. That's not true at all. Even compared to other beach boys / brian releases (It's OK, Knebworth, Pet Sounds Live, BWPS), this sounds radically different. So yes, i expect brian to be singing offkey. He's been doing it publicly for the past 37 years and they only started really trying to hide it on this tour.
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: ontor pertawst on November 07, 2012, 08:46:33 AM Quote Seriously, I think some of you people are living in a world of fantasy or something. Well, at least they know me there. Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: HeyJude on November 07, 2012, 09:00:11 AM We'll have to wait for the final product, but *if* the actual full content is like that trailer, then it is indeed unfortunately very similar to McCartney DVD's and other concert productions that emphasize quick cuts, tilted shots, crane shots, and most annoying of all copious amounts of awkward audience shots.
You don't have to sell us on how much the audience likes the Beach Boys! We bought the DVD, we like them too! :lol Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Justin on November 07, 2012, 09:26:33 AM Some awkward shots of part of the audience standing while the other half remained seated...it's weird in person when that happens and looks even worse on camera. Bad form!
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Cabinessenceking on November 07, 2012, 02:56:21 PM doesn't look that impressive. I want to think of this band as the band of legendary stuff that was and never was. Although I digged my concert, I know that I will never experience the true Beach Boys. Watching a polished film showing rednecks dancing to a faded Myke Luvh vocal won't do much for me.
Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Autotune on November 07, 2012, 03:53:33 PM Yeah. Thank God we have the Concert! LP to remind us what they really sounded like live without any studio trickery or overdubs. ::)
Seriously folks, I think it's great to have this. To hear the guys' voices and blend one more time. Did we dream of this a year ago? Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: lee on November 07, 2012, 04:30:47 PM Watching a polished film showing rednecks dancing to a faded Myke Luvh vocal won't do much for me. hilarious! :lol Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: runnersdialzero on November 07, 2012, 05:24:11 PM Yeah. There are no studio overdubs on it. Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: EgoHanger1966 on November 07, 2012, 05:41:37 PM Yeah. Thank God we have the Concert! Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: runnersdialzero on November 07, 2012, 10:30:34 PM The whole album just knocks me on my ass, and it's such a huge testament to the skills of the other guys. Denny couldn't drum? They needed session musicians because they weren't very good by themselves? They were worthless without Brian? My fucking ass.

The only thing that bothers me about that album is how Wouldn't It Be Nice and California Girls are cut down a little bit, I guess for time. They're not bad performances but they feel a little incomplete. I wonder if that's the way they played them in the concert or if they were just edited for the album. They're not bad performances but they feel a little incomplete. I wonder if that's the way they played them in the concert or if they were just edited for the album. The "California Girls" intro was edited because Mike sings an "amusing" high note and then says "Thank you, music lovers" during that part. Why they couldn't just leave it or pot Mike down (it'd still be somewhat audible, but come on) is beyond me. I can't recall any edits to "WIBN" offhand, but I will say the whole "HURR DUR THE NAME OF THIS SONG IS... !!!!!!!" intro thing was dumber than a football bat. I wish someone would have given Bruce acid before the show so he would have introduced every song like that (that's what you do when you're on acid, intro songs). Title: Re: 2012 DVD Live Trailer Post by: Jukka on November 08, 2012, 12:13:49 AM Whoa. I just noticed WIBN is track number 15 on almost every album it appears! In Concert, Concert/Live in London twofer, Pet Sounds (stereo), Radio Two concert... What's going on here?!
