Title: My new song, "Ikaria" Post by: the captain on October 28, 2012, 11:22:49 AM The past two and a half hours of my life were writing and recording this song, "Ikaria." http://www.sendspace.com/file/v8tnmd
Before you ask, last week I read this NYT story. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/28/magazine/the-island-where-people-forget-to-die.html?pagewanted=all Title: Re: My new song, \ Post by: Aegir on October 28, 2012, 12:42:04 PM That's a cool article and a nice song. Kind of reminds me of Carole King.

I can't say I was thinking Carole King, but I'm more than happy with any coincidental similarity. Title: Re: My new song, \ Post by: the captain on November 10, 2012, 02:52:29 PM I added a verse, repeated the chorus, and added instruments (and a few vocals). Also totally redid the lead. Probably not done, but updated anyway. http://www.sendspace.com/file/zy3n3c
Title: Re: My new song, \ Post by: the captain on November 12, 2012, 04:54:15 PM Much as the modified v-n of Ikaria is obviously better, I liked older, Oct. v-n too. In general, it's a very charming & warm song. I'm especially fond of the ending: the rest --> a few piano chords --> stretto --> almost canonical a cappella - perfect! I thought there would be a fade, but quite unpredictably the song ends on a forte. Now about the vocals. I like your gentle way of singing & the girley harmonies are amazing, sound very realistically, as if they were sung by a girl, actually! Cool imitation ability, need to say. In short, thanks for this little gem, Luther! Another one(-s) in my collection! And special thanks for an article! By nature I'm an optimist, so I jolly enjoyed reading that wonderful, kind & positive story. Cheered me up for the whole day! Thank you again! Thanks very much. Half of me wants to be offended about the "sings like a girl" comments, but let's be honest, I love falsetto singing and high voices, so it's cool. You might be interested to know the ending was improvised, none of those parts were thought through in advance. That's why they don't necessarily work on a theoretical level (breaking counterpoint rules!). It was just fun, so I kept starting over and adding parts. If you like my songs, there is a thread here of a bunch--like 50 or so. You're welcome to them all, as is anyone. If it's a dead link I can refresh. (I don't maintain any bandcamp or anything.)
