Title: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: SloopJohnnyB on October 22, 2012, 08:13:55 PM I just got back from a Target store where I picked up the 45 rpm TWGMTR and a Beach Boys 50 t-shirt. They were packaged in a 7 inch box that had the cover of the TWGMTR single on the box.
Really nice t-shirt. 100% cotton and not the cheap stuff. Good quality. The shirt color is powder blue and the Beach Boys 50 logo has the faded, worn, vintage, been-in-the-washer-and-dryer-too-many-times look. The only size available is listed as L/XL. It's more of an XL size. The 45 rpm 7 inch vinyl is the same one that was released by Capital last summer. The box is nice and displays well but the small Target 'sticker' in the lower left hand corner of the box is actually part of the box. It can't be removed. I was a little disappointed by that. If you'd like a nice Beach Boys 50 t-shirt, the TWGMTR 45 vinyl single, and a decent display box check it out. I found this at the end of the isle in the CD section. Other bands are featured with their own box/shirt/record. This is a Target exclusive. Not bad! The price was $19.99. I can't seem to find a photo of it on line yet. Maybe someone will post it if found. Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: Wah Wah Wah Ooooo on October 23, 2012, 05:30:21 AM I went to Target last night to buy this and was disappointed that they only had the L/XL size....oh well, such is life for a man 6'6'' and 270 lbs.

Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: EgoHanger1966 on October 23, 2012, 09:20:02 AM I went to Target yesterday on my lunch break, and they didn't have any of these. Are they really only making them in L/XL, though? That's dumb. I wants me a small!
Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: CJS on October 23, 2012, 11:25:33 AM They didn't have it in my local Target either. The kid looked at me like I was insane when I asked for a 45..... CJ
Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: SloopJohnnyB on October 23, 2012, 01:01:56 PM I found it in a display at the end of one of the CD sections, on the corner. There were other boxes featuring other bands including Heart, The Beatles, Hall and Oates and others. Once you find this display or section you shouldn't have any problem finding the Beach Boys.
I think these just came out this week. Give it a few days or a week and look again. It looks like a pretty big promotion for target with all of the bands that are included. Don't ask for the 45. Ask for the box that has a t-shirt and record in it. They can check the store inventory on their computers to see if it's in. Tell them about the other bands that are included. I'm sure these will be offered at all of the Target stores. I found this at a target in Pittsburgh, PA. It's a big store. There were three copies or boxes that featured TWGMTR. There were three for Hall and Oates, three for Heart and so on. Maybe they have more in stock. By the way, I'm still seeing the Walmart CD/Zine Pack thing at one or two of the Walmart stores. It seems more had been shipped out after the initial release. I don't know about this Target thing, though but I suspect they'll be available for a while. Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: Bubba Ho-Tep on October 23, 2012, 01:09:46 PM Speaking of Target....am I the only one who keeps moving copies of "TWGMTR" to their end cap new releases section to help drum up sales? >:D
Already bought the 45 back in the summer time...don't need no t-shirt. Target only sells "athletic fit" novelty tees so slobs like myself can't partake in the fun. Discrimination, plain and simple. Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: MarcellaHasDirtyFeet on October 23, 2012, 01:57:46 PM As a somewhat short slob, I'm hoping I fit in the Target T. Don't have a working turntable, so I plan on filing away the TWGMTR 45 with the TSS box. For now...
Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: Eric Aniversario on October 23, 2012, 02:01:08 PM Official release date is today, I went last Sunday and there was a spot on the shelf for it, but it was empty. They should be on shelves today.

Neither store had it and when I asked the store employees, none of them had heard about it or had seen it. All they had was the God Made The Radio CD and the new Greatest Hits release.
Maybe I'll check back later this week. Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: joshferrell on October 23, 2012, 08:09:40 PM Yeah I've seen it at my target, haven't got it yet but it's there.
Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: Lonely Summer on October 23, 2012, 11:08:53 PM Got mine today. Very pleased. Never did see the 45 in the stores this summer - yep, I'm a brick and mortar guy - so getting this AND the shirt is a real treat. Putting a record on the turntable...a NEW record...always gives me a nice feeling.

Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: donald on October 24, 2012, 09:50:43 AM I always see to it that BB cds are properly arranged for maximum visibility in the store. BW too. Sometimes they are behind bands beginning with the letters beat so I make sure to remedy that as well >:D
Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: Margarita on October 24, 2012, 07:16:11 PM Nada at the Target at Western/Logan/Elston in Chicago. The employees lounging by the photo counter said that if they had it, it would be "over there by that Taylor Swift nonsense" (a display of Taylor Swift shirts and other merch to go with her latest CD).
That's the Target I don't like...I'll try the one closer to home this weekend. Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: lee on October 24, 2012, 07:35:54 PM They had the shirt/vinyl bundles at my Target but didn't have the Beach Boys one. They had all the other bundles (Hendrix, Miles, Beatles, etc. ) but they all are XL shirts. Sucks because I really wanted the Miles set.
They were located in the music section on a back endcap that was facing the "budget" dvd wall. Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: KittyKat on October 24, 2012, 10:09:53 PM It might make more sense to carry them in the men's section where Target sell graphic t-shirts. Most of the audience for that type of thing will be men and these shirts are sized and cut for them, of course (and women who are into the Beach Boys would read about it on fan sites and if they wanted it, they'd know what department in the store to go to). The vinyl record is just a cute retro bonus for those who aren't into vinyl. I think people who are into Hendrix and the Beach Boys aren't that likely to be hanging out in the Target CD section since it caters more to fans of current mainstream music. It may be missed out on if they don't even advertise it or sell it on their website.
Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: SonoraDick on October 27, 2012, 07:07:16 PM I was told by a clerk who took the time to look it up that it's carried by SUPER Target stores, at least in the Galveston-Houston area, not the smaller ones. He said it is available online.
Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: JT PDX on November 05, 2012, 09:37:36 PM I finally made it to Target this weekend and got my copy of the 7" single/t-shirt pack. Such a relief since I had previously been unable to find the 45 at a brick and mortar store. I had been curious reading previous posts what the set looked like in the box so I thought I'd post a picture.
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7256/8160146276_5e296efeb1.jpg) And here's the endcap display. (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8070/8160152192_c5a2295593_z.jpg) There were a lot of cool sets there. If I had more money, I might have bought the Dylan, Cash, and Beatles' "Hello Goodbye" sets. It's such a trip to see 45s at Target! Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: SloopJohnnyB on November 06, 2012, 06:31:50 AM They should do a Good Vibrations box and t-shirt. The 45 rpm cover would look great on a t-shirt. A new release of the record would be cool, too.
For those of you who already have the TWGMTR 45 and also pick up the box you can use a fine glue or paste and place the 45 cover (your extra copy) on to the box. It covers up that Target tag and looks great. Looks great on the bookshelf or stereo cabinet. Nice display item. I remember seeing a large 15 Big Ones cardboard display at a National Record Mart back in 1976. It was right in the front of the store as you walked in. Unfortunately most of those display pieces ended up in the garbage dumpster. :( I wish I had that display piece now. Target is selling turntables in their electronics department. They have a red colored Crosley turntable that has built in speakers. It also can be plugged into a stereo system. Best Buy carries a nice Sony turntable. Vinyl Rules and will not die! :woot Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: Eric Aniversario on November 06, 2012, 11:34:39 AM I bought it, but I'm pretty confident I will never wear this shirt. WAY too big. Why is it called L/XL? Isn't it one or the other? By the looks of it, it's an XL. I usually wear Small or Medium.
Title: Re: New Beach Boys Target Exclusive Post by: Pretty Funky on November 06, 2012, 12:37:23 PM The whole thing seems to be a ploy to get rid of excess XL shirts.
(oops, there I go with that bitchin again! ;)) |
