Brian Wilson, Bruce Johnston, Jeffrey Foskett and John Stamos! Yeah! (At least I think it's Foskett, the video quality is THAT bad!) Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Post by: Cabinessenceking on October 12, 2012, 03:17:03 AM There is only one real songwriter in that group. I can already imagine staring into the record shop window at their first release: Goin' Public Vol. 2

Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Post by: MarcellaHasDirtyFeet on October 12, 2012, 04:16:25 AM Man, Stamos is hanging all over Foskett throughout this video. Did they sleep together after the video ends, or did Foskett just curl up at the foot of Brian's bed like he usually does?

I can already imagine staring into the record shop window at their first release: Goin' Public Vol. 2 Actually, there are three... Historical Johnston wrote Deirdre and Disney Girls for the BBs, as well as many other cool tunes before and during his stint in the group. Some of Foskett's solo tracks are really great. Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Post by: Lowbacca on October 12, 2012, 08:10:24 AM So Jeff was solo artist for awhile and even had hit songs? Every day here = new tidbit of information. Thanks for enlightening. I'll surely check out his work. There's some neat stuff released by Foskett. You should definitely check it out. Plus, his recordings with The Pranks.(http://pipos-studios.es/clasifica/a-z/Jeffrey%20Foskett%20-%201996%20-%20Thru%20My%20Window.jpg) (http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/b57723165bdbf0897e3b4b97c75b7631/1310130.jpg) Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Post by: EgoHanger1966 on October 12, 2012, 08:15:27 AM Some of The Pranks' material is really cool. I think it's only available via blog. "Dance Floor" is a killer should-have-been-Beatles-circa-HDN track, complete with Rickenbacker, merseybeat drums and harmonies.
@RangeRover - for Jeff's solo material, seek out "The Best of Jeffery Foskett". It has almost all of his best stuff - it's really only missing "Fish!". Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Post by: Aegir on October 12, 2012, 12:36:01 PM at least one Pranks song is officially released, but under Foskett's name: Tell Me Why, on the compilation album Pop Under the Surface Volume 4.

Every day here = new tidbit of information. Thanks for enlightening. I'll surely check out his work. Yeah, he did some pretty decent stuff in the late 90s/early 2000s. His best of is probably the best place to start, but if you're looking for BBish stuff then Thru My Window (which Gary Griffin co-produced) is somewhere between Today and Sunflower stylistically, though not as good as either. He did a good duets album, Twelve And Twelve, featuring lots of other powerpop types like Randell Kirsch and P.Hux, and which had Brian and Darian on one track, a version of Everything I Need that's closer to the original demo than the released Wilsons version. He also did a truly excruciatingly bad album called United We Stand: Songs For America, in the aftermath of the Sep 11 2001 attacks, featuring Scott Bennett and Taylor Mills. It's one of the worst things I've ever heard in my life. Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Post by: EgoHanger1966 on October 12, 2012, 01:48:12 PM For anyone who hasn't heard Fish!, well, prepare to have your mind blown. ^-^
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b16Ubm3gbLI He gets a lot of flak for his falsetto as of lately, but his voice was really really great on his solo records. Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Post by: KittyKat on October 12, 2012, 10:35:16 PM Oh my gaw. Listened to some samples of the United We Stand CD. Maybe Jeff has more in common with Mike and Historical J. than we or even he suspects. Those guys never did anything as "patriotic." That almost sounds like something done by the Lawrence Welk people, only even less wunnerful. If Jeff wants to give up BW, he could have a career in Branson.

and "Grand Old Flag/Yankee Doodle Dandy", wow. You haven't lived until you've heard Jeffrey Foskett recite passages from the Constitution and Taylor Mills reading from the Declaration of Independence. Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Is there a popular version of "Tie a Yellow Ribbon etc" by a female singer? I can really picture someone like Anne Murray or Karen Carpenter singing this. Title: Re: How about this for a super group? Post by: Danimalist on October 13, 2012, 12:41:09 AM Can't find it on Spotify. Link?

I once used that album to tease my American wife with, playing it and saying "That's your country, that is. This is what your country can be most proud of." She threatened to divorce me if I ever played it in her presence again. |
