Title: The passing of Andy Post by: bgas on September 26, 2012, 08:00:20 AM Just now read this post on PSML. Sad to hear, but nice video:
>> [PSML] RIP Andy Williams Passed Tuesday night, aged 84. Quite liked his singing. Liked his autobiography, too. Liked his first Christmas LP. And then, there's this bit of intergenerational strangeness. File it alongside your Frank-Elvis and Bing-Bowie summits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7duppJOm3NE "Andy, Andy, go faster, faster. Andy, Andy, go faster, faster." ----Len in Toronto << another great one gone Title: Re: The passing of Andy Post by: pixletwin on September 26, 2012, 09:21:43 AM I associate Andy's voice with my own wonderful childhood Christmas memories. I always looked forward to his holiday specials. RIP Andy.
Title: Re: The passing of Andy Post by: Mikie on September 26, 2012, 09:42:47 AM For me, it was mostly Andy Williams (and Doris Day) records that I heard a lot in my house while growing up. My Mom always bought all of Andy's records since the mid 50's, even before Moon River.
Among many good records of his that I like a LOT are "Lonely Street", his cover of Charlie Gracie's "Butterfly", "Can't Get Use To Losing You", and "The Hawaiian Wedding Song." One of the best things of Andy's that I loved were the songs he sang at his friend Robert F. Kennedy's funeral. "Ave Maria" and "Battle Hymm Of The Republic". He vowed never to sing Ave Maria again after that. Search for them - they're really beautiful. His version of "God Only Knows" is great too! One of the all-time best crooners - an American legend. Right up there next to Sinatra, Crosby, Martin, Como, and Bennett as far as I'm concerned. Never liked to talk about Claudine and Spider though. But he sure stood by her side after that happened..... This one in particular was always a favorite.
