Title: Re: TSS box discounted Post by: buddhahat on September 20, 2012, 03:06:53 AM It's £84.48GBP ($129.99)
How do you know it's being discontinued, John? I can't see that info anywhere on the link. The smile fanatic in me feels compelled to buy a second set just in case ... Not sure I could justify it to the missus though. What's the likelihood this will become a collectors piece? The Beatles Mono Box is everywhere still. I kind of assumed the Smile box would be the same deal. buddhahat, your missus & mine must be in cahoots! I'd love a second set as I rarely dare even open my copy in case a three-year-old comes across it and decides it'd make good scissor practice! No way though, even at £84.48 (what an odd price…). Haha the long-suffering-partners-of-Beach-Boys-obsessives club! I ummed and arred about playing the vinyl from the set and then decided I'd be crazy not to. What point is a box set that remains sealed and unused? Weirdly, that's what so many of my CD box sets do (well I at least open them, but after you're ripped the cds and read the book they're kind of an expensive bookend). That said I will be gutted when the Smile LP inevitably gets a scratch. Wish I'd bought the standalone LP as a playing copy now! Title: Re: TSS box price drop Post by: buddhahat on September 20, 2012, 07:06:19 AM Meant to say John after you posted about reining in on BB products: If you're not getting the upcoming Brian Wilson songwrter DVD I'll be happy to post on to you after I've watched it if you PM me your details. That'll be at least one BB product rescued from the 'expensive bookend' pile!

Title: Re: TSS box price drop Post by: Summertime Blooz on September 20, 2012, 12:14:37 PM My box set LP hangs on the wall over my desk amidst a bunch of other much older LPs. I've never listened to it and don't really feel the need to. I believe the wife paid 89.99 for the box set back around Christmas time.
Title: Re: TSS box price drop Post by: brineweelson on September 20, 2012, 02:14:56 PM It's funny reading these posts because i have a copy i've never opened also and have been thinking about buying another one. I keep thinking it's insane to spend the money on it plus getting it by my wife but i can see it going out of print. I guess alot of people do this buy a second copy and put it away.
Title: Re: TSS box price drop Post by: Heysaboda on September 20, 2012, 03:36:55 PM I was hoping "they" would issue a TSS set w/ JUST the 5 CDs, no vinyl, smaller booklet, smaller foorprint, cube type box.
I'm not sure "why" I would want this, but I am pretty sure I would want it! :lol Title: Re: TSS box price drop Post by: bgas on September 20, 2012, 05:36:56 PM Heck, I thought everybody got two sets when it was first released, as I did.
Course I opened one to check out all the goodies and kept the other sealed; what sort of colleor would I be if I hadn't? Someday, when I'm old and (totally)gray (and I get better hearing aids) I'm thinking I might actually sit down and listen to TSS for the first time. Title: Re: TSS box price drop Post by: sockittome on September 20, 2012, 08:23:29 PM I had to scrape up every cent I had to buy the one boxed set that I got. And what did I do? Opened that sucker up and enjoyed the crap out of it! I read every bit of print and played every disc (cd and vinyl). I've waited too many years for this to just have a sealed box sitting in my closet, thinking that maybe, just maybe it might be worth something someday when I'm in my 90's....if I find just the right collector to buy it. There are no guarantees. Best to appreciate it now and for years to come.

I don't keep it stored and sealed coz i think it might one day be worth something, i do it because i've got crippling OCD and if i scratch a cd i'll not be able to sleep for a sodding week obsessing over it. :P Title: Re: TSS box price drop Post by: sockittome on September 22, 2012, 08:45:39 AM I had to scrape up every cent I had to buy the one boxed set that I got.
