Title: I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but if Dennis had lived Post by: dwtherealbb on September 10, 2012, 09:36:56 AM what would he have done musically? Would he have participated on BB85, Still Cruisin and SIP or would he have told Mike to get lost? Would he still be making music or would he retire and just chill out at Marina Del Rey. Would he have gotten into something else, like acting?

That being said, maybe if the Dr. Landy thing had come to fruition he may have survived, I also think that Dennis would have told Landy to get f*cked when he started screwing with his and Brian's personal life. He probably would have contributed to the BB85 album (Possibly featuring 80's-ised versions of Bambu songs.. good or bad thing, you decide..), which in turn would probably have given Brian the drive to finish "Oh, Lord". I think he'd have left in time for Kokomo and would have done another solo record around the time of Brian's (maybe a collaboration between the two instead of two albums). He may have rejoined the Beach Boys in the early 90's (in time for those Baywatch appearances ;)) but would have probably left with Brian and Al after Carl passed. I reckon that he'd have worked sporadically throughout the 00's and rejoined the boys on tour this year probably contributing Piano instead of drums. By the '80s, it was obvious that even if his creative juices were flowing, that he wasn't concentrating enough to get anything finished. Let's say even if he cleaned up enough to be more functional, I'm assuming MAYBE he would have contributed a song or two to new '80s Beach Boys albums. I also believe the music he would have made would probably be super trendy '80s. Maybe something like Lindsey Buckingham's album, Go Insane. Progressive, yet incredibly '80s. Or maybe something like the "new romantics" like Spandeu Ballet or Duran Duran we're doing. Cuz let's face it, Dennis was super trendy. And he was always into making his music super romantic, so I could see him being drawn to that stuff with all it's overwrought sensibilities. But yeah, I find it doubtful he would have done any solo work, maybe until the early 2000's where he would maybe finally put out a second solo album.
I don't even know why I'm doing this though. These kinda threads are always useless. What happened happened and there's nothing we can do about it. I for one, am not a fan of "Kokomo" and wonder what would have happened if Dennis was around for that and if he would have played on it or if he would have said "no can do". He was so far gone at the end that there was no going back.

So what you are saying is that Dennis would have lived the "Bold and Beautiful" lifestyle. DISCLAIMER: I only know of the wretched show because I record a weeks worth for the girlfriend and she watches it on Friday night ... Title: Re: I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but if Dennis had lived Post by: Lonely Summer on September 10, 2012, 11:49:26 PM If Dennis had lived, he would've taken care of several things. #1, beating the hell out of Landy and his entire staff for their abuse of Brian; #2, told Mike "look, I dig girls in bikinis and skimpy cheerleader outfits as much as you, probably more, but.....oh what the hell was I gonna say? I love the show the way it is, Mike, except I wanna do a couple of my songs every night.....and no f***ing way is Stamos singing Forever with us!"

Would he have gotten into something else, like acting? I'm not an expert. I've just got to go with what i know. I can't imagine Dennis EVER not being a Beach Boy. He loved it, and he loved being on stage. If he would have made it, I think he would have been doing kind of what Al has been doing, trying to get the band back together whenver possible. He would have been Brian's biggest cheerleader, too. He probably would have told Mike to get lost, and then they would have got over it. All the crazy sh*t we've seen Brian do over the years? Dennis would have done that and more. Hard to say though. It's a damn shame that someone so passionate and full of life died like that. That would've been vital in establishing himself outside of The Beach Boys. I wish this happened and I wish I had a dvd of the tour :3d
