what would be cool is if they did a rarity show, performed one set of songs they have never done live before. and then keep the second set from the tour.

Wow, I'd be all over this if I were anywhere near there.

And a rarities show would be glorious, of course.  So, I didn't notice, but "Radio2 In Concert"... is this something we can all listen in on live during the event?  Will it be aired at a later date?  I'm just not familiar with the process.

Wow, thanks for the heads up on this. I have entered already and would absolutely love to get tickets for it! I have all my fingers crossed!

Great find!

I've applied but if I do get tickets that's gonna make things very difficult because I'll have to travel down to London on the Monday, back up to Yorkshire then back down to London again on the Friday and back again. Actually kinda hoping I don't get 'em :/

Being a little sneaky with this  :smokin

Its not yet even mentioned on the Blueboard or even BBB , so the less people know the more chance of obtaining tickets  :-D

Yep I know exactly what you mean , same scenario here BUT the chance to see them in a Theatre that has a capacity of 600 is just too good to miss

I shouldn't think it will stay a secret for long! Do the tickets have names on them? If I have applied for two can I bring whoever I want?

That is true. If I somehow do get the tickets I might just stay in London for the week (university will not be pleased). Heck I might even get a ticket for the RAH show since I apparently have more money than I actually do! :lol No point freaking out yet though ... aaand breath :P

Yeah, OF COURSE they'd do a show on national radio that's 50% tracks no-one has ever heard before. I'm SURE that's exactly what will happen.  :o

Sorry to double post, but apparently the Radio 2 gig is now "fully booked". I should think that now means that all seats have been allocated - has anyone received any emails or phone calls confirming their place yet? Until I hear they are being sent out I still have hope that I will get one. Pleeaassse!

You know, this kind of sucks, no?  I know it may just be the luck of the draw, and there is going to be a lot of 'what-if's' in my thoughts here, but with the number of folks applying from here, I would think that at least one of us would have scored tickets.  I wouldn't think anything of it if there weren't whispers floating around of the BBC handing these tickets out to 'their people.'  If this really is their practice - and all the while they are putting on a good public front by making it look as though all (or the majority, anyway) of the tickets are being distributed to the general public (while in truth they are reserved for VIP's), then I'm just disgusted.

Or maybe I'm just disappointed.

Or maybe I should just get over it as this type of thing happens all of the time, while much more legitimate concerns are carrying on in the world, but damn, I was really happy that some of you guys might just have the chance to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience.

Generation42, I am not sure if the tickets have been sent yet as I am sure someone from these boards would have managed to get at least one ticket.

I've had a disappointing day today and was expecting a new post to say that emails were being sent out which would upset me even more! Every time an email comes through I hope it's from the BBC but no, just rubbish.

IDK, these things are never that highly publicised - They might mention the upcoming gig but never details of how to get tickets on the radio every time I hear about one of these. I just fancied SOMEONE'S (namely, me) chances, y'know?

I was going to but my Akai 4000DB has a fault...its not recording or playing from the left channel. Tried to repair it last week but it's in need of more attention than I can give.

Analogue lives in our household. My wife, who isn't an audiophile or hi-fi buff agreed the digital stream was *awful* so good old FM it is.

I listening to the last 10 minutes of the preceding programme and compared my Virgin Media cable with FM and FM won hands down. Vocals especially just became mush. I usually find iPlayer no better. They're compressing the stream too much, and there's a greater dynamic range on the FM. I don't even have a decent FM aeriel hooked up just a crap dipole on the wall....and a receiver from 1978 lol.

Yeah, the quality on the stream is meh.  I'm jealous that you can hear it better on the FM signal.  The performances are still coming through pretty damn great, though.

From the beginning of WIBN it sounds a bit like they cut out SJB. If that's the case I'm not too fussed, they said "only" 60 mins of the 75 min set would be broadcast so some stuff had to go.

Yeah a part of it really did sound like it was coming off from something else...it wasn't perfectly edited out.  I assumed this was being streamed live as it was happening.  But if this was pre-recorded then I have no doubt that they performed the songs in the medley style as we've heard/seen on the tour.

Just got in from the show ...  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

WOW! radio broadcast doesn't do it justice, FANTASTIC show albeit edited from the usual set to fit in with the 75 minute time slot (no "Sail On Sailor" or "All This Is That") - but surprise inclusion was David on "Getcha Back" !!
20 feet from the front of stage ...
All the band were there except Nicky Walusko
Two takes to get "God Only Knows" correct - Brian forgot to come in at the beginning !!
... and, get this, seats still empty at the back and side of the hall. So much for selling out ...

Yes onto cassette! Did the switcheroo from side A to side B just after H&V.

Guess that's all folks....very nice performance with highlights from everyone but man....Al Jardine....star of the show. If we do get another Beach Boy's LP...please....more Al lead vocals :)

Bruce, Carl and Billy were the backing singers on Elton's "Don't Let The Sun..."  It's in my top-5 songs of all time list and the vocal arrangement is a big part of the reason why.  Carl singing with the frenchhorn at the end of the chorus is my favorite Carl Wilson vocal performance of all time. Chills every time.

So it seems that not only were there empty seats but they let people in who turned up without a ticket and then allowed them backstage. I have gone from very excited and happy about Friday to really quite annoyed and upset. What a shame for all those who applied and would have paid for their tickets. How is this right?

What's interesting is that in the Beach Boys Story (of which interview parts are used here) Carl mentions that David was in the band and then Al replaced Brian so that Al and David were in the band at the same time. I thought they would've used that and go on to talk about David in the band

There are (some very brief) moments on this broadcasts where Jeff and Brian's voices blend so perfectly that it creates a mid 60s sounding studio Brian.

Since when are the boys associated with barbiturates? I guess they wanted to go with alliteration.

Some fun Mikemocking, but the ending rings true, huh?

"...the clouds of time and discord parted to reveal heart-stopping glimpses of blue-skied, sun-soaked genius. "

So guys, what do you think about the interview? I think Bruce's a little too much ass-kissing Mike (once more) but on the whole they sound like still being happy to be together. Standard answers from everyone that we've hear dozen of times now by this time

Soooo weird how Why Do Fools Fall In Love keeps making even small setlists. I think this is becoming Mike's version of the Shortening Bread obsession??

Just gotten around to listening to the show (still on a high from actually being there) but disappointed to see that the BBC also edited out (what was my standout moment) ... a wonderful rendition of "Cottonfields" with Scott Totten supplying some wonderful steel guitar fx behind a GREAT vocal by Al !! Also, I wonder why they also edited out the title track from the new album ...  ???
So that makes Surfer Girl, Sloop John B, Getcha Back, TWGMTR and Cottonfields as the edited songs ...

Much as I love Cottonfields, you can see the thought processes that went into picking it for the set, and it's BONKERS

"This got to number X in Britain, so we have to do it in the set"

Considering they are such a creative group, it's incredible how much they (and really, I'm pinning this on Mike) love to stick to boring old facts, figures and statistics.

OK. Just listened to this broadcast while reading everyone's comments while it was happening. Lots of fun.

Finally a decent sounding representation of what this tour sounded like live. Huge and tight. This incarnation of the BBs is a live band to contend with.

Cowsill on drums was the best! EQ on the bass drum sharp and clear. None of this overblown/unnecessary/unnatural overmiking and preposterous low end EQ. Just aggressive muscle hitting skins. It left so much more room in the mix and still commanded the room. He plays with such joy and abandon while still keeping excellent time and driving the whole thing. Good job Mr. Cowsill.

The rhythm section smoked and drove that locomotive that the songs rode in front of. Multi-instrumental band gave the songs size and depth.

I'm not a worshiper but I am a fan. Like everyone else at the 2012 concert I attended, I was astounded at the sheer power of these tunes live.  From thunderous rocking power to aching tenderness.

It would be a shame to water this band down. Thank goodness every single second has been professionally documented from every angle. Future generations can see what all the fuss was about.

Just had another listen. Didn't realize the first time that Mike sings the melody of the album version on "Isn't it time"'s middle part instead of the single's melody
