Title: Positively Nowhere (original song)
Post by: rab2591 on August 28, 2012, 02:28:50 PM
Hey Smiley Smilers!

I quickly recorded an original song today. I tried getting that mid-60s Bob Dylan instrumental sound, and then tried coupling that with lyrics inspired by 'I Just Wasn't Made For These Times'.

If you do listen, it may help to read along with the lyrics, as some of the vocals are kinda hard to understand :o

Anywho, hope you like it!

You're voice sounds like that of Peter Noone.

Thanks!

I don't sound at all as good as him, but I'll take the compliment!

I heard the 4th Street influence in the organ line, way cool. I love this. I don't really hear a Peter Noone thing going on, but you do have a great voice. Keep on keepin' on.

Thanks - 4th Street is one of my absolute favorite Dylan songs, so it was nice to try an emulate that.

Right on ! I couldn't spot the right term to describe it...

this is a great song, but it's too short. put it some instrumental breaks to separate the verses. but it's such a good song. I like how it is a Positively 4th Street esque organ and is called "Positively Nowhere". It's like you're turning that song on its head. Really cool.

Very nice, Bob!  I tend to agree with Aegir - it could stand to gain from some instrumental breaks, maybe a bridge.  I quite like the easy lyric, too.

Thanks for the kind responses! Makes me happy to see that people like my stuff!

@JMZ & EgoHanger1966: I'll definitely try to get 'Sad Saturday' finished soon - I absolutely love that little snippet I recorded, and can't wait to make it into a whole song!

@Aegir & Generation42: At the time this was more of me goofing around, nothing serious - so hence no instrumental breaks or a bridge. But now I kinda wish I had put in a little bridge.

Thanks again to everyone who listened!

Title: Angel #9 (original hip-hop song)

What was the famous Brian Wilson quote from a few years ago? "Rap is crap" - most of it is, but I still find it to be a fascinating genre.

Eminem is one of my favorite artists, so it was inevitable that i'd write a rap song.

It's not finished, and half the lyrics are unintelligible garbage haha. But it may be a new avenue of music I'll keep exploring in the future. Anyways, here ya go:

Well, I really like this one too...along with In Louisiana.  Post more, and get a record contract, or shop your songs to other artists, or whatever.  Great stuff.

Nice song. How'd ya get yer guitar sound? There was a very nice balance I thought, between piano and guitar.
And, would I be out of line to compare the vocal to Chris Collingwood from Fountains of Wayne?

Thanks! I'd sure love a job somewhere, anywhere, in the recording industry.

I record with a condenser mic (Audio Technica 2020) - I keep it about 6-9 inches from the base of the guitar neck, and put a little bit of reverb on the track.

I had to come back and give a few more plays to Positively Nowhere to see if it was as good as I remembered it.

And it was.
