I actually really like how the quilted computer graphics of the original cover match the homespun electronic synthesizer sounds inside.

And I guess I'm a fan of the title too, though I wish it had been "Brian Loves You", if only because he sounds so adorable when he mentions how he wants to name the album that in the interview.

I've always felt that Mike should release a solo album called Mike Loves You.

I believe that was a working title until just before the lp was released. The cover was done by Dean Torrence graphics. Nice package with below par music some of which should not have been released-sorta in the vein of the SS debacle.

Title: "God, Please"

I think Brian said in an interview once he wanted to call it "Brian's in love".

Well, I don't know that I would argue that Love You is great music. But it somehow is one of my favorite albums. I also like the front cover. Although, the one given to be titled Solar System wouldve been good as well.

Dean lobbied to call it Cowabunga, the expression popularized by Chief Thunderthud on Howdy Doody. That was supposed to tie into the native theme of the cover art, which was meant to look like a Navajo rug.

To my friends I simply say Love You is quirky, eccentric and highly contextual, but ultimately endearing due to it's child like themes and lyrics. It also had one of the weirdest sounds one could find in popular music by 1977.

Everything about Love You is perfect in the most non-perfect way imaginable.

Better title and cover? No, thanx, i'm used to the official.

Blimey, I always thought it looked like some kid got keen with a pack of felt tips and a sheet of graph paper!  That said I'm happy with the original, which went okay with the (if I remember correctly) the cheap card used for the original LP sleeve. Felt real budget!

And who here hasn't attempted the same thing at some point? (usually in my case to realize that I've missed a square on the top row or something..  :lol

Me, the record buying public, and the critics have been disliking both albums for longer than ruhnerdyilezeeroh has been a fanboye. ;)

It would be safe to say that both albums are held in high regard by many critics. Popularity is another matter.

John -- according to Dean, the paper stock used was actually of above-average price. The unusual matte finish was to suggest a rug-like texture, but unfortunately many people -- including some of The Beach Boys -- thought that since it wasn't glossy, it was cheap.

That's funny that it was meant to look like a rug. To me, it looks very ahead of its time, like it could have been in an arcade game, or perhaps made in Microsoft Paint.

Quite like this though the background looks kinda Welsh Atlantic rather than Californian Pacific!

Damn amateur graphic edition computer programs. Now everybody wants play the artiste and improve the record jackets. Sorry, I kow it's just for fun, but it gets tedious.

I know it is from the same photo sessions that spawned the group photos on the rear covers of Love You and MIU...though looking at this shot I realised Brian looked shorter, I think on the original image he looks shorter too.. I can not recall where I saw it maybe somewhere on this MB...

It looks like they're all leaning forward, and maybe Dennis isn't leaning as much as the rest of them. Notice how Al appears to be the same heigh as Carl and only a big shorter than Mike.

Brian and Dennis are standing, Carl and Mike are leaning forward, Al is standing on his milk crate.

Just realised Mike and Carl might be standing on some rocks or something...

Better title: The Beach Boys F*ck You. (An album with that title in 1977 would outsell Rumours if you got Mike to talk about 'Punk' and have Brian talk about his moog and snort coke on telly).

Keytars were very popular for a short while in the 80s.

I like that photo too Hypehat. I used it as cover art for the Adult Child boot on my ipod.
