Title: Mike Love circa 1966 Reappears As Modern Hipster? See Video... Post by: guitarfool2002 on August 24, 2012, 09:34:20 AM Disclaimer: I'm doing this with a wink-and-a-nod sense of humor that I hope the subject of this if he ever sees this will appreciate and not take offense.
Opening statement: Is the Mike Love look from 1966 back in style? Is it a thing among hipsters? Is this person possibly a board member and a BB's fan? In yet another semi-insomniac haze last night, I dozed off and woke up in the easy chair to the Jimmy Kimmel Show on ABC (I'm partial to Fallon, but anyhow...). The next guests were going to be two authors named Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher, who have a book titled "VHS" http://www.amazon.com/VHS-Absurd-Ridiculous-Videotape-ebook/dp/B005GPSN1M (http://www.amazon.com/VHS-Absurd-Ridiculous-Videotape-ebook/dp/B005GPSN1M). It's all about their collection and archiving of all kinds of bizarre VHS tapes from the golden age of that format in the 80's, with training videos, exercise videos, do-it-yourself projects, etc. It's a classic kitsch/hip kind of book, and it definitely interested me as someone who has hundreds of old VHS tapes stacked up in various places, and a feeling that 80's kitsch and schlock will be appreciated the same way a lot of us appreciated 50's and 60's pop culture kitsch and schlock as we read the "Re:Search" books like Incredibly Strange Music about the previous generation's forgotten stuff in the 80's and 90's. Getting to the point... Kimmel introduces them, the guys walk out, they appear to be hipsters, and I did a double or even a triple take when I saw one of them. You don't get this exact look by accident. Post by: EgoHanger1966 on August 24, 2012, 09:39:22 AM I was channel surfing last night, and I happened upon this interview with the VHS collectors.I thought to myself..."he must be trying to look like Mike Love. It was too uncanny!
Title: Re: Mike Love circa 1966 Reappears As Modern Hipster? See Video... Post by: ontor pertawst on August 24, 2012, 09:47:16 AM I had a friend who went for that look. While standing next to him, a drug dealer tried to get our attention by yelling... "HEY! IRISHMEN!"
These are the fine fellas who do the Found Footage Festival. Check em out, there's some of it on youtube I'm sure. Endless entertainment value. http://www.youtube.com/user/foundftgfestival/videos (Twitches in the background trying not to go into a plug for the found footage madness going on at Everything is Festival this weekend in LA... fails...) I should confront him with his Mike Love-ness and gauge his reaction carefully. Title: Re: Mike Love circa 1966 Reappears As Modern Hipster? See Video... Well, that's just Brian. Sometimes he's f*cking with us, sometimes he just doesn't remember (correctly). I merely wanted to respond to this:Quote And I think it is about time a certain someone is brought to task about this: Title: Re: Mike Love circa 1966 Reappears As Modern Hipster? See Video...
