Title: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: FatherOfTheMan Sr101 on August 16, 2012, 09:16:39 PM Mentally, that is.
Like let's say, just for kicks, that I'm currentlly going insane, and I almost can't function, what beach boys album should I listen to to help me wake up tomorrow? Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Wild-Honey on August 16, 2012, 10:26:43 PM Well I don't know about going insane.. but when I need a bit of a boost I listen to Friends or Smile
Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Jukka on August 16, 2012, 10:40:44 PM Friends came first to my mind. But if I was really insane, then Love You would make me feel okay about it: "Hey, I'm not the only one, and this ain't so bad."

Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Wild-Honey on August 17, 2012, 05:03:59 AM Friends came first to my mind. But if I was really insane, then Love You would make me feel okay about it: "Hey, I'm not the only one, and this ain't so bad." Hehe, brilliant :) Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: rogerlancelot on August 17, 2012, 05:07:09 AM Smiley Smile was reportedly used in a clinic in Texas to help people coming down from bad acid trips. Does anybody know which city in Texas?
Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: ? on August 17, 2012, 05:08:18 AM I would go with Love You for depression, Wild Honey for anxiety, and Mount Vernon and Fairway for general, unspecified craziness.
Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: rab2591 on August 17, 2012, 05:34:17 AM Friends.

Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Summer_Days on August 17, 2012, 09:12:16 AM Friends. But first replace the not-so-chill 'Transcendental Meditation' for 'I Went To Sleep' or 'Old Folks at Home/Old Man River.'
Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Reddiwhip on August 17, 2012, 09:52:37 AM There is a spiritual healing in the Friends album. It's not long enough for that very reason, IMO.
Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: FatherOfTheMan Sr101 on August 17, 2012, 10:00:57 AM I listened to ADITLOAT and the whole pet sounds for 8 hours, slept an hour, and listened again.
It helps. Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Myk Luhv on August 17, 2012, 10:18:35 AM I do something like this, on repeat, ad infinitum, in no order: "Tree", "Please Let Me Wonder" (bonus if it's the original [?] version with alt. lyrics), "Love Surrounds Me", "It's Over Now" Brian piano demo, "'Til I Die", "Here Today", "Warmth of the Sun", "Caroline No", "The Night Was So Young", and "My Diane"
Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Don Malcolm on August 17, 2012, 04:49:04 PM I think that the later posters here are moving things in a good direction...we can mix and match tracks from many LPs to create the optimal "Therapy" mixtape...
...but back in the day, one of my favorite LPs to put on late, late at night was Greatest Hits, Volume 3...seemed to have a pretty soothing flow to it (at least Side 1, at any rate). Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: mr_oleary on August 17, 2012, 06:20:06 PM Well I don't know about going insane.. but when I need a bit of a boost I listen to Friends or Smile Smile is the last thing I would recommend to someone who thinks they are about to go insane :-[ Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: EgoHanger1966 on August 17, 2012, 06:26:07 PM Well I don't know about going insane.. but when I need a bit of a boost I listen to Friends or Smile Smile is the last thing I would recommend to someone who thinks they are about to go insane :-[ :lol I've always had the thought that if I ever tried acid and listened to Mrs. O'Leary's Cow, I would never come back. Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Johnston65 on August 17, 2012, 06:57:31 PM Find Anna Lee, the Healer and she will recommend Friends. I guarantee it. Even the cover art to the album is calming.

I think maybe the only thing more disturbing than that would be Smiley Smile Wind Chimes. I tend towards Smiley, Friends, SU and Love You (& POB) for the soothing thing. If I were about to lose it and that song came on the radio I think it would take a force the size of Eugene Landy to bring me back :o Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Steve Mayo on August 18, 2012, 09:14:57 AM Smiley Smile was reportedly used in a clinic in Texas to help people coming down from bad acid trips. Does anybody know which city in Texas? in the dec 1971 issue of beat instrumental, in the 3rd part of their 3 part beach boys series (part 3 entitled: beach boys to surf's up and no conclusion) here, in part, is what was wrote about smiley smile... "recorded stoned to be listened to stoned (and, in fact, it is now being used as the sole therapy for bad trips at a dallas-houston-fort worth, texas, drug clinic: headphones instead of thorazine, and they haven't lost anyone yet)". Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: Don Malcolm on August 18, 2012, 05:38:08 PM I get the impression somehow that the Smiley "Wind Chimes" is Brian's version of a musical acid trip, with the gorgeous madrigal-like tag being the "way back" to the regular, mundane world.
Correcting my earlier post due to faulty memory...it was the British version of Greatest Hits Vol. 3 and it was side two...a fine sequence of post-surf/car songs: "Darlin'"/"Please Let Me Wonder"/"Let Him Run Wild"/"Country Air"/"I Know There's An Answer"/"Friends"/"Heroes and Villains." Now that's a sequence worth replicating. Those EMI guys had it all over their Capitol counterparts. Not only four more songs on the LP, but a noticeably superior track selection. Now that's what I call sanity in action! Now that's what I call sanity in action! I think SMiLE as a whole is more representative of an acid trip than Wind Chimes. It has the dizzying highs (heroes and villains), the traumatic lows (Mrs O'Leary's Cow), and the zany adventures in between. Like let's say, just for kicks, that I'm currentlly going insane, and I almost can't function, what beach boys album should I listen to to help me wake up tomorrow? If you're going insane, and can't function, you should see a doctor, and not try to self-medicate with a rock and roll album. Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: willy on August 20, 2012, 05:48:12 PM Nice one, Ron.
Me, I like to replenish my inner man with the following: Baby Blue Lady Lynda Add Some Music to Your Day At My Window Country Air (that stereo version out there) Little Pad (that stereo version out there) Winds of Change Title: Re: Best Beach Boys Album for Healing Post by: donald on August 21, 2012, 11:49:49 AM I find Had to Phone Ya a very happy and infectious melody. The theme of connecting with a friend/lover etc....."when i phone ya, Californias not so far away"......and that happy clarinet piece.....is just a very nice pick up.
But the anxiety level goes up a bit a the end until you hear the person answer the phone (Marilyn?)
