Title: Why it was easier back then.... Post by: petsite on July 28, 2012, 02:17:56 PM Before the internet (remember when our folks would say before TV) it wasn't as easy to get info on The Beach Boys. So you purchased every magazine that had an article, joined fan clubs to get their newletters, and just did what you had to do to gather information.
But some of the stuff was easier when the group was less um.....corporate back in the late '70s. Want to meet the group? Call Brother Records and ask where they were staying in your area. I just use to ask how can I get in touch with Jerry Schilling or Tom Huelllt. Want more info on their releases? I would call Steve Einzig at CBS and he would spill the beans. And when I wanted some sheet music to unreleased tracks? I would just call and ask for it. Isn't this a marvelous BW chord progression? So unique, still very identifiable as such... With a characteristic minimal and gradual movement of fingers to produce a most varied and colorful sound. ... I became a fan in the late 80s/early 90s. In a time and place when, for a while, every find was a triumph. In my search I must have come across 50 different bio articles stating the same thing: everything sucks except Pet Sounds. I don't know how I survived. To this day, I am sure half of those writers never heard Pet Sounds but were copying from someone else. |
