Title: Surf School Dropouts, debut album
Post by: kwan_dk on July 22, 2012, 01:03:24 PM

Hi guys

I mentioned in a recent post that the group I'm in, Surf School Dropouts, was about to release its debut album. Well, it's up now on Bandcamp for streaming and purchase. It's called 'Summer is a State of Mind', - the title of the opening song. :-)

www.surfschooldropouts.bandcamp.com

All songs were recorded from 2009 and onwards. Each of us sing at least one lead and of course all four are featured on the harmonies throughout. Some songs are very Beach Boys / Brian Wilson influenced, others reflect more of a general 60s pop sensibility...

Have a listen and tell me what you think?

Thank you for the kind words.

@Amigo - I don't think I understand your wish for older sounding styles & chords. Are you saying that the album sounds too modern?  ???

Some songs do, but that's it. IMO.

Well, that's fair enough. I actually find that quite reassuring. Hopefully that means we haven't indulged our 60s fetish too much.  :-D

We'll surely appreciate it if you do, Mike.  ;D And no matter what, I'd be interested in hearing what you think of the songs...

I missed the listening party but I enjoyed the email that went out (all 19 of them).  It was cool to learn a little bit about each song.

I re-listened to the "rough mix" of "Catch the Sunshine" - even without words that is a great song.  I may have to buy the finished product at some point.  Thanks for the music!

Yeah, sorry 'bout that. It wasn't our intention to spam people with a flood of notifications but Facebook somehow messed up the event we had set up. Unless you have Mark Zuckerberg in your band, I guess you should be very attentive when using Facebook for promotion.  ;D

You may have noticed that we changed the line in question after the feedback from you - it was replaced with "Hurry up 'cause we still have a chance"...

You should sing in Danish! :)

Ha ha, yeah. Could be fun to do that at one point! If nothing else re-record one of our songs just for fun,... but 'Jeg leder efter den perfekte bølge' doesn't sound as catchy as 'Searchin' for the Perfect Wave.'  ;D

Shameless plug for anyone interested.  :)

During these last couple of years I've regularly posted Surf School Dropouts songs on this forum as we got them done. This summer we collected all of them as a digital album only available via Bandcamp. Check it out here:

http://surfschooldropouts.bandcamp.com/album/summer-is-a-state-of-mind

However, since then we've made a deal with the Spanish indie label Sunny Day Records. They will issue the album on vinyl the 28th of December. So if you like the songs & you're a vinyl kind of guy, head over to:

Wished I discovered this earlier! Really excited by the prospect of a vinyl copy, but what are their shipping rates to the UK?

I'm glad to hear that. For shipping rates write Sunny Day at shop@sunnydayrecords.es and hear what they charge. I reckon their shipping rate must be very reasonable as they cater to an international crowd with their webshop. ... and you can pay via Paypal.
