Title: Motown "Funk Brothers" bassist Bob Babbitt R.I.P. Post by: PhilCohen on July 16, 2012, 11:03:23 AM Motown Funk Brothers bassist Bob Babbitt has died after a long illness. He worked almost until the end. Babbitt, one of the few "blue-eyed" Funk Brothers, began working at Motown in the 1960's, gradually taking over from the legendary James Jamerson, as the work load became too much for Jamerson. Babbitt played on many of the Temptations "Psychedelic soul" tracks. In his post-Motown career, Babbitt was involved with the Gloria Gaynor Experience and with producer Alan Douglas' controversial, heavily overdubbed Jimi Hendrix albums "Crash Landing" & "Midnight Lightning".
