In addition to the aforementioned, I'd love to see the 45 Vega-Tables mix, a vocal only version of Brian's Surf's Up '66 + '67 (if it's possible), stereo Barnyard BGVs and bonus tracks of the boys tackling the incomplete songs. I can see Al doing a good job on the lead of Holidays and Mike on the pirate rap  :afro

Well, for a start, Mark Linett noted that at one point they had 9 CDs worth of stuff initially. I'd say start from there and release the stuff they had to edit out to get to 5 CDs.

Short of releasing hundreds of 15-18 minute session tapes in full, I don't see what else they could do with it. But stranger things have happened...it WAS actually released!

Aside from a bunch of stuff folks have already named, so many pieces, I'm talking actual pieces of music, are edited for time (mostly just removal of some repetition) on the last four discs. While I totally understand the need to, it'd be nice to see this stuff out there in complete form.

Fixing the bum note Carl hits on "Golden locket" on the Rock With Me Henry take of "Wonderful" sounded really odd and I'd like a proper mix without that, too. The "I need some water, man!" comment is both amusing and explains why the vocal ends well before the song is over and would've been nice to hear on it, too, but I understand why it was cut.

Child is Father of the Man - Brian edit

Unmolested mono versions of:

Barnyard
Look
Holidays
Fire

Stereo mixes of everything.

12 track version of Smile in both mono and stereo conforming to my own personal specifications.  >:D

At least a highlight reel of Taxi Cabber and the Smog tape

A little more of the Veggie Fight--they didnt give us nearly enough to actually be usable on the box, it was kind of an insult like just checking a box "well here's your fight." Could've at least used the entire bit from the Hawthorne Rarities.

The Breathing skit (they gave us Moaning Laugh, why not the beginning??)

Test edits

the longer take of the CIFOTM version 1 chorus as heard in the Odeon boot take of the song

Alt takes

stereo mixes even if they require some digital trickery

If there's any Smiley stuff that wasn't in that other archival release, or CCW/CWTL

More isolated vocals, a capellas and instrumental tracks (I know you can reconstruct some of the instrumental tracks from the session tapes of TSS but save us the hassle, huh?)

Do what they did with Veggies--just make the best, most complete version of each song with what you have as if it were a standalone single--forget making it fit into a suite, forget BWPS, forget "keeping the album at a certain runtime" just make the best version of each song as if they existed in a vacuum.

More Talking Horns--just do whats left of it.

Basketball Sounds and Bob Gorden's Real Trip--why not? If those other PS-esque tracks mentioned in Badman are real and not alt titles for what was on PS bootleg, release those too.

Oh, how I'd like this!

Pity it's impossible, as:

1) Either the most "complete" version of a song is a "kitchen sink" version, assembling something like a few monstrosities I have listened to, particularly (but not only) with H & V and Vegetables.

2) Or it is a really "best", well thought version - but, then, what's "best"? What is to be included? Not included? Which specific takes? In what sequence, etc? There would NEVER a consensus: if you asked 1000 people what would be the best version of any SMiLE song, you would get 1000 different answers. Just think of all the different existing fanmixes.

And what you would ask for, would be just that: another fanmix.

Disc 1 of the Sessions was possible only because they had BWPS as a blueprint: and you hate it, likewise many (too many, by the way) people.

I guarantee you: ANYTHING claiming to be a collection of the best, most complete possible versions of the SMiLE songs would be hated by at least as many people.

I think its possible to construct nicely flowing versions of each song.  H&V is the biggest victim of the 'everything but the kitchen sink' type fan mixes.  I've never heard one that works.

There's enough material out there if you take into account some missing lead vox.  With A.I.s a fair bit has been filled in though.
