I was just listening to the two takes of this recorded for the SNL special (I think).  The first take doesn't have any coughing in it and his voice doesn't sound gruff at all.  I was quite surprised how much it sounded like old Brian.

That rendition is a lot of fun. That Same Song from that same segment is fun, too.

How many takes of it are circulating? I've heard two versions. One from the special, and another take that breaks down because of coughing.

I've heard that there are two complete takes on the Long Lost Surf Songs 6 without coughing.  Brian's vocals are very clear and strong.  Apparently.  Both are leagues ahead of the filmed take that's in the special.

I may have to try to seek this out. To bring the responsible parties to justice, mind you.  8)

Absolutely.  I also hear it contains the 1975 live performance of Back Of My Mind sung by Dennis....

I always wondered where that live version of In The Back Of My Mind came from. I have it somewhere, but it only says "live 1975".

So does this imply they wanted to make Brian appear in worse condition than he actually was, or did Brian agree to play along with the "human wreck genius" thing by the used take?

Brian also sounds great on the live studio takes of Surfer Girl.

It would have been nice to hear and see a "clean" take, but honestly, the laughter of three brothers sitting at the piano is a special thing that is rarely seen and/or heard.  :)

There is also a pretty cool little Ding Dang "jam", at the piano.

I remember it just very foggy. I'd love to hear them and I don't remember ever hearing another take of "I'm bugged at my..."
