Title: Brian Wilson's THANK YOU Post by: Sunflowerpet on June 29, 2012, 04:19:47 AM What do you thing about "Thank You"?
I think is one of the most beauty and hidden gems written by Brian, the trumpet solo is terrific. Title: Re: Brian Wilson's THANK YOU Post by: Jason on June 29, 2012, 07:52:38 AM That song is like the eight-page letter from Murry to Brian...uncomfortable.
Title: Re: Brian Wilson's THANK YOU Post by: keysarsoze001 on June 29, 2012, 09:03:26 AM It's pretty and the production is at least better than a lot of that Sweet Insanity-era material. The horn is pleasant, just because identifiable instruments are a rarity in Brian's 80s songs. But the lyrics are way too on-the-nose for me, even more than some of Scott's stuff on TLOS. "Crazy beatings from my father" or whatever, that's kind of putting too fine a point on it. The fact that his dad hit him wasn't really the issue. It was the psychological aspect that was damaging. And his relationship with Murry was more complex than that. It also upsets me every time I hear the line about how no one cared about him, including his brothers. Carl tried REALLY hard, and Brian loved him dearly. This song sort of feels to me like the aural equivalent to the autobiography.
Title: Re: Brian Wilson's THANK YOU Post by: onkster on June 29, 2012, 09:06:01 AM I think it's OK, one of the better SI tracks. But to me, the songs on SI only ever get that high--nothing outstanding. He can do better. And has done.

Lyrics sound like pure Landy to me. Title: Re: Brian Wilson's THANK YOU Post by: bgas on June 29, 2012, 10:29:15 AM I like "Thank Him" a lot betterer

Lyrics sound like pure Landy to me. Sweet Insanity, in an ideal world, would have been released under Landy's name. Title: Re: Brian Wilson's THANK YOU Post by: Autotune on June 29, 2012, 12:41:29 PM You can combine this topic with the Adrian Baker thread. That way, we would save half our insults as most of them seem to apply to both said singer and this song.

I saw the lyrics to this song in Brian's auto-bio (cough-cough) long before I heard the song. The lyrics are just awful on paper; hearing them set to music, they're not quite as bad. The music - Brian's - is fine, I would like to hear that melody with different lyrics. Compared to Dr. Landy's psychobabble, Mike's SIP lyrics are genius.Title: Re: Brian Wilson's THANK YOU Post by: onkster on June 29, 2012, 05:41:44 PM Yeah, "Thank Him" is great!
Title: Re: Brian Wilson's THANK YOU Post by: Wirestone on June 29, 2012, 06:03:57 PM Brian wrote an original set of lyrics that were much better. You can hear them on the fabled hotel tape.
