Alternate reality: Two-Lane Blacktop touches a nerve/zeitgeist/whatever, and becomes a minor hit. It was Denny's attempt at starting an acting career. Would he have continued acting, maybe even changing to major productions? This would have meant less musical productivity, even more jealousy within the BBs but also more cool movies with Denny.

Am rather fond of Two Lane Blacktop, it's a shame Dennis didn't get more of a taste for acting...

Helluva interesting filmmaker, Monte Hellman. It's well worth digging out his quirky westerns and oddities. The C*ckfighter with Warren Oates and Harry Dean Stanton? Have yourself an impossibly depressing, thoroughly 70s Sunday afternoon and curl up with it today!
