At this point, what do you think will be added to the set list, if anything?

I bet Graduation Day at some point. We know they did that in rehearsals.

Vegetables, too. It could go in the "Al" slot, and it's rumored that it came up at a sound check. In terms of Smile material, Wonderful is the other obvious pick.

I also wouldn't be surprised by "Custom Machine" -- Brian has played it live, and apparently Al has suggested it, too.

You might have "Here Today" pop up in the European shows -- Mike has played it over there.

I'm surprised they haven't done "Surf's Up" yet, that's obviously a big fan favorite, I wouldn't be surprised to see them do it.

Well, as I already saw them, it's not super important to me, but I wouldn't mind going on YouTube and seeing them do "Good Timin'" here in 2012. Apparently they played "Getcha Back"? I haven't seen it on YouTube yet, and I haven't seen many threads about the latest shows, but anyways, did Mike sing it, or somebody else? Because I noticed his son Christian has been singing it live for the Mike and Bruce show lately.

I saw it the first show it was included - Dave sang it, but it sounded an awful lot like Mike from where I was sitting.
Also added within the past few gigs - Darlin'.

It seems odd to me they aren't doing "Warmth of the Sun,"  as a major compilation of the last decade shared it's title and it's a reasonably popular and well known song. I think it's a versatile song too, so it would fit beautifully in either set of the current show.

The pattern for "new" songs being added to the setlist is that it usually seems to be a deeper cut that either Brian's or Mike's band has done within the last 5 or 7 years in their shows. How many songs have they done on this tour that neither band had ever done, aside from the two new album cuts? Even "California Saga" had been done by Brian's band during the handfull of shows Al did with him in 06/07.

So I would imagine likely candidates would be things like "Good Timin'" that both bands have done in the past. I've been hoping for "Goin' On" as my extreme long shot. It would be cool to hear that band do those ascending/descending harmonies. Heck, they even have Mertens there to do the 80's sax solo. The song was dropped like a bad habit before the end of the 1980 tour.

I'm still surprised they never did "Come Go With Me", not that I miss it terribly. If they added it the setlist without deleting a cool song or an Al song, I'd be for hearing it. But I'm surprised simply because it was in the setlist for so many years and was a relative hit in 1981.

Beyond songs either band has done in the past, I suppose we would look at songs the band members have mentioned. So yeah, things like "Graduation Day", "Vegetables", "Our Prayer", "Farmer's Daughter", and also maybe songs they've done in the past that we know some of the band members like. Mike has said he likes "Wonderful", so that's a slight possibility, as would be "Warmth of the Sun."

I'm still hoping someone convinces them to do the extended "Heroes and Villains" just to see if Mike will actually do the "Cantina" bit. If someone explained to him that he would probably at least temporarily win over a lot of the hipster/indie young fans by doing that bit, maybe he'd do it.  :lol

I hope for surfs up above anything else.   Custom machine always struck me as a song where the awesome melody is hampered by the phrasing of the words in the chorus.

Now we don't have Carl, the Smile song would have to be Vega-tables. Wonderful is too difficult (Brian needed both Jeff and Darian to do it with him live) and I think anything else would be anathema to Mike. At least with Vega-tables he can have a dig about how crazy they were to do it, mention Paul McCartney, etc, just like he used to.

Also, Al Jardine. He likes it. Can still do it.

Ehh, I can't see Vegetables going down so well in front of huge 10,000+ capacity crowds.  There's not much substance to that song in a live setting, plus the lyrics are...well, you know what I mean.
Surf's Up would be jaw dropping but I think they would need a lot of rehearsal to get it right. Maybe H&V and GV are all that should be represented from SMiLE on this tour.

We all have out favorites, but not playing "Surfin" on their 50th Anniverssary tour seems like a glaring omission to me. That's an easy one!!  :)

Have they done "Breakaway"? That'd be a great one!

Brian or Jeff, I'd assume though I think Brian could pull it off, it's not a high part.

Al. As a matter of fact, they should give Al as many Carl leads as possible. I'd love to hear him do Feel Flows, Trader, Girl Don't Tell Me, etc.

It's a long shot, but I thought "Come Go With Me" might work its way in. It would be an opportunity for another a capella intro, an Al Jardine lead vocal, another Paul Mertens sax solo, and the song WAS a Top 20 hit single. Granted, it wasn't the liveliest song when they used to perform it, but this group could make it rock.

The guys did it in '93, Al on both record store days and on that show with that semi-guru (I don't remember any name, sorry). Plus it is a cult favorite, even if just because McCartney was on it (as the story goes). I think it could work out well. The beat of the song is great.

They pull it out sometimes during the soundchecks so it wouldn't be that far off to just insert into the show.
