I just did a count, and 66% of the members of this board are in the USA. So you're about 7 hours early...
but you really like the way Brian reads from his prompter?

I'm not early, but (how the kids put it nowadays) FIRST!!  :)

What I dig is his performance. (Brian's usually glued to the prompter these days - you'd be used to it if you had seen at least some of his performances.)

Here in ye olde England it's not his birthday for 20 more minutes.

The amount of bookings don't lie...the touring Beach Boys this year have received all of one booking in the good old remains of the British Empire. Mike and Bruce have received far more than that. You like potato and I like po-tah-to. You like tomato and I like to-mah-to. Potato, po-tah-to, tomato, to-mah-to...LET'S CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF! :)

I would loved to have seen Brian Debut material such as SMiLE and TLOS in london , but sadly not he decided to do it at some shite arena in downtown ( god knows where in the U.S.A. ) with only a 25% Capacity turn out shouting out for 'Little Deuce Coupe'  :lol

I really do enjoy the USA/UK banter here , its like best of mates taking the piss out of each other in a bar after a few beers  :)

Thanks for giving me music to share with my children when they get here.

Like so many here, I first discovered the Beach Boys through my parents.  I recall buying one of those bargin basement cassette tapes in the early 80's for my mom as a birthday present (I was all of 7 or 8 and thought, my mom likes the Beach Boys so I'll get this).

All those years later...here I am.  It's a real testament to Brian's importance, which can never really be overstated.

Like few people here (!) I discovered Brian Wilson through his album Imagination!  No kidding!  I then attended one of Brian’s very first solo shows at the Wiltern theater, and as we left I told my wife that we had just seen some sort of spiritual event!  There was just something in the air that night.  It was a wonderful show that I will never forget!

So happy birthday to the Gershwin of our time!  Congrats on a #3 album!  My goodness!

Happy Birthday to Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson, who turns 70 years old on Wednesday, just two days after his musical hero and contemporary Paul McCartney reached the same milestone.  The importance of Wilson’s contributions to popular music can’t be overstated.  His masterfully complex arrangements of The Beach Boys’ layered harmonies and the captivating music he composed has inspired and influenced decades’ worth of artists, from The Beatles and The Who to such modern acts as The Flaming Lips and Wilco.
 
Although Wilson’s career was curtailed for many years by his struggles with mental illness and substance abuse, he recently has experienced a creative resurgence that has included a number of critically acclaimed solo albums and tours.  This year, he rejoined his fellow surviving Beach Boys members to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary with a major world tour and a brand-new studio album titled That’s Why God Made the Radio.
 
Speaking recently with ABC News Radio, Wilson discussed how he feels about reaching the milestone birthday.
 
“It feels good to know that I can still sing at my age,” he notes.  While Brian and his band mates Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston all will have reached the age of 70 by the end of the year, Wilson points out, “We’re still happening, though.”
 
Asked by ABC News Radio if he had a birthday message for Wilson, Love says, “My birthday wish is that he gets healthier and healthier, year by year.”
 
Johnston, meanwhile, adds that his wish is the “same as Mike’s, so we can keep gettin’ in the studio.”
 
Wilson and the rest of The Boys have more than just his birthday to celebrate.  That’s Why God Made the Radio debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 last week and the band is getting great reviews and big turnouts for its 50th anniversary concerts.
 
Love says the positive response may just inspire the group members to keep the reunion going.
 
“We hope to record some more,” he maintains.  “I mean, we all love music, and what we do together seems to be working, according to the recent charts.”
  As for Wilson, he says he’s happy to see fans of all ages continuing to enjoy The Beach Boys’ music at the recent shows.
 
“It’s great to know that the younger generation picks up on us a little bit, ’cause we make good harmony,” he declares.

But it is amazing to see how well Mike coordinated his green shirt to match the green colors of the cake decorations. Coincidence?  ;D

It's a good thing they snapped this photo before Mike realized the bakery forgot to add the fondant Maharishi figure which he ordered for the cake.

It's been an incredible 70 years.  There were times when we didn't think Brian would make it half this far.  But he's gone from there to back again, and brought so much incredible music back with him.

Happy birthday, Brian Wilson.  You're an inspiration.
