Title: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: Letsgoawayforawhile on June 16, 2012, 06:48:44 PM What's your favorite piece of music from the Boys?
No vocals. Just instrumental, or intro type stuff. I really dig Mount Vernon and Fairway. I'm not too crazy about the electronic stuff, but the piano and melody are gorgeous. And considering where Brian was then, makes it that much more beautiful. Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: Eireannach on June 16, 2012, 07:00:59 PM I love the instrumental portion in the middle of Cuddle Up, the introduction to Wouldn't It Be Nice, and Mrs. O'Leary's Cow.
Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: LetHimRun on June 16, 2012, 07:30:05 PM The instrumental intro to The Little Girl I Once Knew and Let Him Run Wild (love how it builds as each instrument is introduced and layered).

Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: SG7 on June 16, 2012, 08:34:26 PM Kiss Me Baby backing track is so amazing. I would add too the I'm the Pied Piper section. Simple, but beautiful.

Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on June 16, 2012, 10:49:16 PM Amen to Johnny Carson and Mt Vernon and Fairway! Also, my favorite part of Pet Sounds is the bridge of Here Today! Also like the bridge to Please Let Me Wonder and Wendy. The music to My Solution is awesome. The intro to Til I Die (extended version). The tags to Life of a Tree and Don't Go Near the Water.
There are so many great moments. They bring about memories that last forever. Forever memories. Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? It's hard not to want the opening credits montage of my life set to the Pet Sounds title track. Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: SamMcK on June 17, 2012, 01:59:43 AM The backing track to In The Back Of My Mind is better instrumentally than when it has Dennis's vocal IMO. Something just seems off about his vocal on that.
Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: Sie W on June 17, 2012, 02:47:44 AM Tack piano that was used from 1967 and all over the Wild Honey album.
Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: Cabinessenceking on June 17, 2012, 03:16:07 AM The entire backing track of Love You is stellar. Small electronic notes bouncing from right to left, erratic moog bass. Whats not to love? I would love a few of those backing tracks to show up on a boot or something.

Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: SamMcK on June 17, 2012, 04:22:24 AM The bass on the stereo mix of Pet Sounds is amazing.

Something just seems off about his vocal on that. I agree with you that the backing track stands alone quite well. I agree that something seems off about Denny's vocal. Wish I knew exactly what. It almost sounds like he recorded the vocal first, alone, and then Brian fit the music behind it. I dunno. it's weird. But...............I wouldn't change a thing. Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: Letsgoawayforawhile on June 17, 2012, 10:53:47 AM I think the vocal quality is a lot lower than the backing track. I think that definitely has something to do with it.
Title: Re: Favorite piece of Beach Boys music? Post by: JanBerryFarm on June 17, 2012, 11:07:40 AM Right... that, and the fact that the first verse sounds more like a bridge, than a verse. It's like there is a beginning to the song that isn't even there.
BUT... who are we to second guess? It are what it are. |
