Title: The use of the tannerin in live versions of GV Post by: Cabinessenceking on June 14, 2012, 08:30:58 AM I recall Brian talking about GV being a 'happy' song about the vibrations people give off and that the use of the tannerin was supposed to sound 'spooky' for lack of better word.
However the use of the tannerin in this clip from 1980 is different from all others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7s9LrAlD_I The sound of the tannerin and that it gets used even in the verses remind me much more of that vibrations that Brian wished to share through the song. In this clip the tannerin har more echo and is more reminicent of the familiar 'horror film' theremin. I much prefer this version to the modern live use of the tannerin. Anyone got an idea why they changed it like that? It sounds terrific! Probably just Meros playing around with the arrangement and Carl approved of it.
