Title: Blondie Chaplin alert! Good news....
Post by: Emdeeh on June 13, 2012, 08:27:12 PM
I just found out that Blondie Chaplin and The Beach Boys will be playing shows in Bethel, NY on the same day, June 17th. Blondie will do a set at 3:30 p.m. at the Catskill Distilling Co. before the Beach Boys show that night at the Bethel Woods Center. So here's a golden opportunity for a sixth Beach Boy to show up onstage in the evening.

I'm considering emptying my bank account right now to make the trip from Georgia. I really need to quit checking this board.

That's it. I'm sedating my wife and going to the concert whether she likes it or not.

As someone has said on another thread, the tour is a well oiled machine. If Blondie does join the group an un-oiled, impromptu, barely rehearsed 'Wild Honey' would make me a happy camper! (Provided its caught for youtube of course)

I see you like my father's video of Blondie. That's his recording. My father even joined this board once. It's interesting that this recording seems to have become the definitive recording of Blondie preforming Sail on Sailor in 2011.

No way Blondie would do anything else but "Sail on sailor" if he really should join them (which would be great !).

Not a big fan. But it'd be a cool nod to history. And things coming full circle.

My money would be on "Sail On Sailor," since there's that pesky need to have the band rehearse new numbers. Neither the BW band nor the Mike & Bruce show's band have done "Wild Honey" (to my knowledge). Al Jardine's solo show band does perform WH (with Matt Jardine doing a killer version), but none of them are in the BB-50th band.

I'm not sure Blondie can sing WH anymore.

Wait, I thought the popular opinion on this board is that Blondie isn't a "Beach Boy?"

Not everyone shares popular opinion. Blondie was credited as a member of the Beach Boys on three albums, on all of which he sang lead and wrote songs. There was even a 'petition' on this board that he and Ricky be included in the reunion tour.

They were an attempt at coolness. Great musicians, of course, and I'm sure they are nice people. Were like a group within the group. And in the end, as volatile as any fade into which an artist tries to jump in for the sake of acceptance and popularity. It was a mistake making them full time members IMO. In any case, should have been kept as part of the touring band, but not as full members.

But it'd be cool if Blondie jumped on stage one more time.

Dig The Flames album, BTW.

How is it even likely with Carl gone? Who would be the Beach Boy pushing for Blondie to join them tonight?

Has he collaborated with any of them in the decades since?

It sounds nice, but I'm wondering who of the surviving BBs would actually want this. Brian? Can you picture him working up any interest? Mike Love? Al?

He's not in the Dean/Billy/Stamos friend category...

Yeah, I consider them both Beach Boys and I think it's ridiculous not to.

Gotta agree with part of this.  Although not a friend of any of the band perhaps someone in management would bring up having him come in?  I doubt Mike or Al surf the web (well, definitely not Al!) and found out that BLondie is also in town.  So any info they would have gotten would have been from someone else and that someone else could be the one to actually bring Blondie in if the band okays, it of course.  But as ontor points out...why would anyone really be totally for it?

Also, does Blondie really seem that interested to stop by?  My impression is no.  He's been pretty cranky about not being included in the festivities at all and a quote from him from a few months ago didn't really seem like he was up for any kind of reunion at this point.  It almost seems like a quick "walk-on" would be just as much of a dig than being snubbed completely.

Brian arranged and sang backup vocals for Blondie on Hand On my Shoulder for the 2002 Figments album:

This is why Smiley Smile is on the payroll.

Wait, there isn't a payroll?

That's exactly how I see it, but I would add David's 2nd stint in the 90's, and add him back on for 2012 as well.
