Title: Wow, how much does this sound like a modern 'Love You' outtake?!

From the 48 second mark, I find it very difficult to believe that the people responsible for this backing track have never heard 'Love You', big drums, pounding, simple piano part and a moog-esque synth.

I personally don't hear the Love You thing. It's one of the only current radio songs I like, though.

Reminds me distinctly of a similarly titled NKOTB single. Doesn't remind me of Love You in the least, other than it's music, using notes.

I get what you're saying. The piano. The low, synthesized bass. The simple as hell drums.  Love You Brian would've come up with a funkier bass line, played basic boogie woogie piano, and sped up the tempo some, though.

Brian woulda added some high bips and spreard them in the mix, making them answer each other from left speaker to right speaker and as aforementioned had some funky bass line rather than the basic chord progression.

Another thing about Brian's moog bass is that he uses it in short jabs, not consistently. The Night Was So Young might be the only exception to that.

Edit: Brian's childlike lyrics and sense of humour are far beyond the pretentious lines I read on my screen. Some people take their lyric making to serious and end up sinking their own tunes as a result. Coldplay is in that group.

There are better examples I can think of that harken back to the Love You aesthetic. I am near convinced Rivers Cuomo of Weezer was inspired by late 70s Brian when writing 'Run Over by a Truck'. He references a Phil Spectre production, the lyrics are very goofy and a thick, fuzzy bass is laid atop a boogie woogie inspired piano line. Also, check the syncopated harmonies in the bridge!

'Run Over By A Truck' sounds more like 'Rejected/Unknown'-era Daniel Johnston to me.

The tired "I don't want to live on this planet anymore" image does no justice to how this thread makes me feel.

I should have probably been slightly more articulate in my original post, Correct, being compared to anything on Love You, this song sucks. What I was getting at was the unconventional combination of instruments and sounds. Lyrically, Brian sh*ts out better stuff than this on a bad day.
