Title: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Freddie French-Pounce on June 08, 2012, 12:07:11 AM We finally have one!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAmk-Wk2pNA&feature=g-all-u Erm.. I guess it makes sense. Probably better that the boys only make a brief appearance at the end. ;D Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: brother john on June 08, 2012, 12:15:20 AM Possibly the worst video I've ever seen. Probably best that its made its appearance after the single has stopped shooting up the charts.
Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Rocky Raccoon on June 08, 2012, 12:26:21 AM Spot the "Love You" album at 0:59. ;D
Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Rocky Raccoon on June 08, 2012, 12:30:18 AM But that was actually a pretty bad video. It looked like a montage of unrelated car commercials with gratuitous bikini shots.
Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Justin on June 08, 2012, 12:30:35 AM I find the moment when the garage door opens and the guys turn to the camera and smile very touching, for some reason. Doesn't matter how young or old you are...The Beach Boys will always be there.
...in your garage, apparently. ;D Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Wirestone on June 08, 2012, 12:31:13 AM Quite nice, I thought.
Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Quzi on June 08, 2012, 12:35:46 AM This'll look quite at home on tumblr :lol
Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: MaxL on June 08, 2012, 01:39:16 AM Bikinis + Surfboards + Hipsters = Really shouldn't work. I don't hate it but it's obviously nothing special. I did like the cheeky quick shot of Mike/Mike's hat towards the end though. In fact I think it's avatar worthy.
Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: over and over on June 08, 2012, 01:40:20 AM Spot the "Love You" album at 0:59. ;D That...............was..................AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: shelter on June 08, 2012, 01:54:43 AM It would've made a whole lot more sense if they would've been performing the song in the garage. Now they just seem to be hanging out there for whatever reason, which is weird.
Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Rocker on June 08, 2012, 02:01:12 AM It is okay. In the same vein as the videos for "Getcha back" or "It's gettin' late" only a little more tasteful. But the boys' appearance at the end was not very well imo. It looks so cheap and stereotype (almost like the Beach Boys were about to party with the young ones). They should've shown them playing the song in the garage while the young people stand their in awe and watching tem. That would be a cool ending but now it is more like a withdrawn dream of an old guy who can't accept that he is just that.....old

Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: STE on June 08, 2012, 03:36:00 AM This video needs one more minute of Beach Boys footage at the very least Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: The Shift on June 08, 2012, 03:37:42 AM I love the concept - that the Beach Boys have been locked in a garage for 50 years waiting to be freed by the grandchildren of Jack Nicholson, the Fonz and the Hoff. Hey, they might not have had any food in there but what a wardrobe!
;D Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Autotune on June 08, 2012, 03:45:23 AM It's passable but not as great as my ideas for a TWGMTR video are.

I agree.Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Cabinessenceking on June 08, 2012, 04:17:08 AM Digged that Love You was there, but I think basically it was made by some LA hipsters who dig the beach boys and submitted to Capitol much like the competition one for H&V. Capitol prob went 'ye this is good, shows young ppl interested, doesnt cost us anything as album is out already, why not?'
I still prefer the fan one, but where di it go???? I cant find it now :-[ it had lots of clips from concerts back in the 70's and stuff Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Mendota Heights on June 08, 2012, 04:26:58 AM Digged that Love You was there, but I think basically it was made by some LA hipsters who dig the beach boys and submitted to Capitol much like the competition one for H&V. The lyric video wasn't either. Try Firefox with the ProxTube add-on, works most of the time, worked for me this time, too. Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Roger Ryan on June 08, 2012, 05:30:45 AM I like that the images/hairstyles/cars, etc. seem to belong to all periods from the 60s to now; that sense of timelessness is appropriate to the theme of the song. The video occasionally captures the wistfulness of the track as well, but I wish we could just get away from the beach/surfing imagery (impossible, I know).

Wasn't sure if they could blend 1960s California, cars/girls/surfing with today's hipsters... but I think they pulled it off pretty well. Love You cover was a nice touch.

Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Ziggy Stardust on June 08, 2012, 08:20:44 AM lolololol the cheesy moment when the band appears, is this meant to be a joke?
and look at Brian's face when everyone comes in to high five the band, he's like "who are these people" Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on June 08, 2012, 09:14:10 AM It says the video is 'private'.

Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: ontor pertawst on June 08, 2012, 09:33:16 AM is this the cheesy stock footage collage they've been playing on the screens of their live shows? Hideous editing, nasty, ugly-looking footage that doesn't quite fit? Won't work for me either. Total amateur hour!

Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Roger Ryan on June 08, 2012, 10:03:15 AM I don't think the video has been officially approved yet.
It's pretty common to upload a private video to YouTube so everyone involved in the production can view it for approval prior to the video being made public. Possibly this one was uploaded as a public video by mistake. When it appears again, we'll have to see if anything was changed ;D Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: ontor pertawst on June 08, 2012, 10:11:04 AM Hey, people reading this: change almost everything. Dump the Getty Images crap. Show a little TASTE! it might do as video wallpaper, but that just looks like a bad fan video assembled by a robot searching for keywords on a stock footage database. Bikini. radio. surf. check. The editing tempo is super lousy, too. Yech.
Go out to a beach and half-bury some old radios in the sand. Film some kids making huge sand castle radios. Hell, film Al Jardine waiting for a bus. ANYTHING! Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Aegir on June 08, 2012, 10:16:25 AM I don't get how some people think this video is any lamer than 80% of any non-musical output of this band.

Bikini. radio. surf. check. The editing tempo is super lousy, too. Yech. Yea, and show the band practicing in the garage and the kids outside hearing the music and them opening the garage door. Then show people nodding to each other with looks that say, 'pretty damn good, for geezers.' Then everybody starts partying and on and on. At this point it would be OK to have some product placement, to not only defer production costs, but to make some cash. Go out to a beach and half-bury some old radios in the sand. Film some kids making huge sand castle radios. Hell, film Al Jardine waiting for a bus. ANYTHING! And our Boys are waiting with amps for these cruising hipsters, hugging and high-fiving!?
I love it. Our college students are just such a generation, and they responded enthusiastically when Mr. Boyd and Mr. Kalinich lectured to them on the BB and California culture and ethos. So I have thus seen with my own eyes a version, albeit academic, of exactly that which is here depicted in the video: the endless spirit of youth seeking--and finding--all that we mean by "The Beach Boys," embracing both "summer days and summer nights," as the video displays. Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: TimmyC on June 13, 2012, 04:25:54 PM I definitely like the idea: hipster/retro/new generation and all that (although I really don't get the bikers), but I totally agree that it would have been better if they had opened the garage and seen them playing instead of them just awkwardly standing there. I don't know - this might be the first thing that's come out of the reunion that I don't love actually. Oh well - who cares? The song is still fantastic. And Brian's face is hilarious. Oh, Brian....

That's because it's less your standard "hipster" and more of the younger side of the Laurel Canyon crowd. They basically worship the 60s, including the motorcycle aspect.Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: Roger Ryan on June 15, 2012, 11:42:06 AM Just wanted to note that now having seen the "officially released" version of the video, that first shot of the Beach Boys in the garage looks like it's a different take than the one that appeared in the video prior to it being marked "private".
Title: Re: Official TWGMTR Music Video Post by: adamghost on June 15, 2012, 07:48:34 PM I'm surprised, with one sort-of exception, no one caught the theme of the video: they're going through the successive decades from the early '60s 'til now, tying in the history of the band and the timelessness of the radio and culture changes in the interim. The first part with the bikers is the late '50s-early '60s. The "Love You" cover and the girl with the braided hair is supposed to be the '70s (which look so interchangeable to now I think that's why the rest of it didn't make much sense). Shortly after that you get the '80s, with the Kokomo T-shirt and the girls with the Madonna look, then the '90s with the guy with the beard, etc.
I think they could have made it a bit more obvious, hence the confusion. I only caught on when they got into the '80s. But I like the concept.
