I could see why "Do It Again" wasn't included, it was more of a PR move than a serious recording....but "Don't Fight The Sea" would have fit beautifully...

Waves of Love however...

"Waves of Love" sounds excellent between "Shelter" and "Daybreak".

dirwuf, prepare to get hammered into submission. There is already a thread about including "Don't Fight The Sea", and most don't want it included or even like it. Because "Do It Again" is a re-recording, people probably would not want it on an album of all original tunes (even though some are 15 years old). Most posters have stated that the album length is fine, and adding "Do It Again" (or "Don't Fight The Sea") might've resulted in forfeiting another song.

That being said, I would've welcomed a song from Al, and I like "Don't Fight The Sea". I also like the "Do It Again 2012 Version" and would've considered including that also. I feel the album desperately needs more fast or "rockier" tunes, especially with guitarist David Marks on board and Mike's voice in great shape. So, since you took the time to start a new thread, I'll reply with this track listing:

Would anyone be surprised if they appear on the reissue  next year after the initial sales drop? Another way to fleece the completists?

I kind of hoped iTunes would have Do It Again as a bonus track (as I've been uninterested in all the redundant crap "exclusive" compilations Capitol has been throwing it on).

It's a shame Al already used his songs really. Lookin Down The Coast word have been great,or San Simeon.

What is this thirst for including these songs on an album of new material? "Waves", "Don't Fight…" and "DIA12" are all commercially available – with relative ease – elsewhere. 

What next? "Oooh, they should have included 'California Girls', I really like that one… or ''Til I Die' – that was their last great track, y'know…"

Others have said it on this board before: this re-union album/tour is being handled/marketed/promoted very well indeed – far better than we had any right to expect from Beach Boyville! – and I can't understand why fans insist on trying to improve on what their idols are offering.

If you were talking about kicking off TWGMTR in favour of an unreleased part of the end-suite, on the grounds that TWGMTR was already available as a single, then I might begin to understand where folk were coming from, though to be frank the album title would then mean f*-all!

My logic regarding "Don't Fight..." is that 99% of people buying the new album don't know about this song and would never hear it otherwise...

DFTS is below average and DIA pales next to the original, they dont even have that glowing organ in it. the DIA remake is too sparse and pointless imo, just a warmup for them.

No, it's not. A pale Help Me Rhonda rewrite with a lazy bit of guide vocal from Carl. It's on the reissue of Al's Postcard From California.

To be honest, only the download version has a "Help Me, Rhonda" riff. The version on the physical CD release is actually more subdued with a nice saxophone lead, and much better vocals. Although I wouldn't switch any of the songs on That's Why God Made The Radio for "Waves of Love", I would like to hear The Beach Boys version, because it does have potential, and is one of the best things that Al has written.

I think "Waves Of Love" - the one on the physical CD - is amazing, both as a production and a composition. Lose the sax and it would be near perfect.

And hey, John Manning, don't be such a wet blanket, man. We're just geeks playing games; it's fun to play around with alternate universes. Give us a break.  :)

Strangely enough, the album version of "Waves" sounds like the Beach Boys. You've got the lead vocal on the chorus sung by Carl, the "dit dit, dit-dit" backgrounds sound a *lot* like Bruce, and I could swear the big, deep "Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaah" at the start of the sax solo is Mike.

And I guess we now know why "Waves of Love" was not on the album. Presumably it was that Brian didn't really wanna work on it. Apparently he didn't hear much potential in it, or maybe it was because of the Carl vocal (making it too emotional for him? Who knows?

Either way, I like both versions of the song, and I really love the physical CD version.

I think I missed that. What have we heard about "Waves Of Love" and the album? It's hard to keep up with all the interviews and articles these days.
